Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

Will a Petrol Starter motor start a diesel Mk1?
I have some Mk2 ones that should be stronger, but will it be enough?

    Forget it

    Not a hope mate. Petrol compression ratio = ~ 10:1 diesel = ~23.5:1
The diesel starter has heaps more windings and a lot more work to do
