  • Crd Model

I've got an 08 jeep patriot with the VW 2.0 turbo diesel.
    BUT......

Is it a crd, or a tdi???

My question is if the vw's say tdi, but on my car it says crd,
which one is it, i'm inclined to go for vw but why put crd badges if its tdi?

    Different technologies.

Carshowroom.com lists you as common rail, and I remember reading the new CRD 2.0 was going to be 103kw. The PD direct injection is older technology now, and I'd be suprised if new cars, even in different brands came out with it. If you take the plastic cover off and post a pic of the engine, it would be relatively easy to tell.

Just an idea, here's a picture of the top cover of the VW CRD engine, which is a bit different to the PD version, specifically the cutout down at the oil dipstick. Wouldn't suprise me if you just have a Jeep badge instead of the VW one....

Aparently it helps to try it when the engine is warm (also make sure they haven't snuck any bolts anywhere just to make it more likely you will break the plastic )

              It's the common rail engine.

The top pulley in the centre of the engine beside the oil dipstick is the CRD fuel pump. The PD version has it on the other end of the engine on the tappet cover. You have the latest, supposedly quieter, CRD motor.

I've never driven any other diesels before (except for a semi!) its not that noisy (the interior quality isn't crash hot for noise suppression)

I've had mixed messages about whether it is a crd or not on other forums.

Doesn't the CRD on the engine cover answer this question?

                    I guess it's a jeep thing.

That's not present in my TDI nor any visually similar 103kw 2.0 PD TDI VW. It's the CRD fuel pump that the PD version has on the other end of the tappet cover.

Unless it's a power steering pump for the jeep version, I'd put money down that you've a CRD.

Seems strange you have to come to a VW forum to work it out, don't Jeep guys get their hands dirty??

Few guys from europe reckon its not a crd, just a tdi.
The jeep site says its a crd.

OK I'm out of ideas till you pull the top cover. On the VW, from memory, it just clips on, but they are full on clips. Takes a bit of force, and easy to break, so take your time.

The other option is to forget about it and just drive the thing!
