Just tried the new Caltex Vortex Premium Desiel in my 2.5lt T5 much smoother acceleration and when cruising accelerating is a lot quicker in 5th or 6th gear. Fuel consumption seems to be the same in city traffic, haven't tried highway, I think 10c per liter extra might be worth it as Caltex say it cleans the injectors. Any other feedback would be good:

How many miles on the Van mate, as I figure it's going to help clean older diesels, thus the performance increase, but with a newer car, well good luck. I have noticed zip with BP ultimate, but it's all most BP's up here sell now.
I thought Canberra was the "heart" of Australia Greggo, strange you guys are so far behind QLD. Naah, the problem with Canberra is everyone else in Oz sends us their rejects - they stamp them as a "politician" and ship them over so we can look after them. They're always getting into mischief and making stupid decisions, and then us innocent Canberra residents get the blame, as in "Canberra did this", or "Canberra decided to do that".Originally posted by cogdoc View PostI thought Canberra was the "heart" of Australia Greggo, strange you guys are so far behind QLD. When we got the chance we even voted against self-govt, as we knew that would just be another lot of politicians to be getting into things and making a mess (and they did and still do).
Most of the time our prices are much higher than elsewhere too, as if it costs so much to truck stuff that extra 2 and a half hours from Sydney.
One thing we have got going for us is much less traffic problems - I go to Sydney often, and hate the way a minor bingle there can create such long lasting chaos.2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

Don't fret it bud, I was born in Canberra...but thankfully was shipped up here to QLD shortly after. I do keep my place of birth on the down low though....Originally posted by gregozedobe View PostNaah, the problem with Canberra is everyone else in Oz sends us their rejects - they stamp them as a "politician" and ship them over so we can look after them. BP Ultimate Diesel
Just reading about this stuff (BP Ultimate Diesel), the BP web site states it is available in Perth, but that appears out of date as I take it Brisvegas has been running this for a while.
Can someone give me some indication on the price difference between this and normal diesel and is the stuff any good. I know that the difference between 91 RON petrol and 98 RON is not as noticable at first but fuel consumption is in favour of the 98 ROM, is it the same with Ultimate Diesel.
I am more interested in BP than Caltex or the others as I have a fuel card from BP so I am limited to using their products.Flipper Dog

From what I've been able to find out so far (no actual experience as it isn't available in Canberra yet), the biggest benefit is if you have clogged injectors (it will clean them up as you drive).
I have read some reports that say they get better economy, others notice no difference at all.2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

I'm in Brisbane, and have filled about 10 tanks of BP ultimate now, and noticed nothing. Was hoping for more power, but didn't even get better economy. Was a downer actually! I run it anyhow, as the difference per tank is very little, about 2-3 cents per litre over normal BP for instance. Interestingly, once a BP servo goes ultimate diesel, well that's ALL they offer. It's all you'll be able to get in time on a BP fuel card around town anyhow.
As Gregoz has postulated, will help older, dirtier cars.
Shame, as BP ULP ultimate definately gave me better economy in my prior thirsty V8 machine, and stopped it pinging when you were fair up it.
I know gas engines can alter the timing, where as diesels can't really alter the injection to the same extent, which probably accounts for the more obvious ULP differences.Last edited by Greg Roles; 12-01-2009, 05:25 PM.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

Re Fuel for TDIs
Had GT Sport tdi stop today and unable to restart. 24 hour assist managed to fire it up via squirting a vapourised fuel into the engine whist turning it over. Suggested go to dealer who reported sporadic fuel fault and advised a change from Shell to BP fuel as it's "cleaner"

Well, I don't get it. Diesel engines don't work like petrol engines, the fuel is injected into the cylinder in the compression stroke. So, it either ignites or it doesn't. I can't see how an "utimate" diesel is going to ignite any easier, faster or cleaner to give you more "oomph". I'm sure some guys here running B100 would agree with me. The only benefit could be (as stated), it cleans your injectors a bit better and that's it.Originally posted by gregozedobe View Post. . . the biggest benefit is if you have clogged injectors (it will clean them up as you drive).

I reckon you're wasting your money. Someone feel free to correct me.
