  • Oil Usage MY08 1.9 TDi POLO

I'm not a wizz when it comes to diesels so ill thought ill post this up.

I'm using about 1L/1000kms of oil, I drive alot of kms every week, eg 600kms
I drive the little beast pretty hard eg up to 4,000rpm, But i let it warm up and cool down and take it alot easier for the first 20mins every drive eg dont go past 2,300rpm.

Is this oil usage to much? And also what oil would you recommend as i do track the car every 3 months and its driven pretty hard to.

    Thanks,

    Matt

My TDI used a heap in the 1st 7,000km (4 litres) and and now at 26,000km uses none.
Its pretty normal (and varies a lot) from what I can gather from the various posts in the forum.

    Cheers

Worth checking with the dealer - as you are replacing oil regularly is should be in good condition (using the VW approved?).

yeah im going to make that a regular thing now. I always changed the oil in my "other" car every 2,500kms before the gearbox went bang!

isnt 2.5k a little too extreme bro?

oil quality and engine materials are at a level nowadays that they dont require that kind of upkeep.

I think from what I've read on the forums its the luck of the draw.

I chatted to a New Beetle (petrol) owner who complained of such high oil use compared to the previous car.

So far we put half a litre in the TDI its only done around 20Ks.
