  • Picked up my new toy today !!!

The Missus and I finally picked up our new Candy White TDI GT Sport today. It's a 6 speed manual with sunroof, mudflaps, weathershields + floor mats. Bloody weather it was pi$$ing down rain (been great all week on the South Coast) but the salesman (Chris) at Southern Classic Cars in Wollongong went to the trouble of moving a few new Volvos around in the showroom to make room for the Golf, then had it chamoised dry and clean ready for pick up. Gave me a quick rundown on how everything works and then away we went. I absolutely love it so far, and I only stalled it once. Just need to give it a few more revs when starting out. Gave it a quick wash this arvo and into the garage it goes. Picked up some dished rubber floor mats and a boot liner (universal fitting) last week so that will be tomorrow first task (trim and fit). Then it's time to go cruisin' Got a couple of quick pics before the wash, will post some more soon.

SCHWEET Russ, personally I think you're a man of impeccable taste. What a machine!

Once you get the hang of slipping the clutch a little on takeoff, you'll realise what a rocket you've strapped yourself into. The GT TDI goes better than it should in my eyes!

Enjoy forgetting what the servo guy looks like, and the look on the XR6 drivers face once you get the changes sorted !

Hey Russ, I like the white We bought our Sportsline a bit too early I think, but hey, we are still happy (just a bit jealous) and still lov'n it..

Where did you get and what brand of floor mats did you get? We got the VW mats but generally like to put rubbers on top to preserve the originals (from kids and all that).

            Hey Mate,

The mats were only el cheapos that I picked up from The Reject Shop (which is like a Go Lo store) They look and feel surprisingly good quality and were only $15 for a set of 4. I know what you're thinking (what a tight a$$) but in actual fact they look as good if not better than some of the one's I have seen at $40 -$50 pr. I intend to use them over the carpet one's as well to protect them, so hopefully they will wear OK. I picked up the boot liner from Clark Rubber ($45) they have mats as well but I'm not sure on their price.

              Hey Greg,

Yeah I agree, great taste, I am loving it just wish it would stop bloody raining down here, I'm gonna wear out my chamois. I am absolutely in awe at the performance of this thing and I'm not fanging it hard !! Cruising along 6th gear at 100kmh and hit a fairly long steep hill (what hill ????) put your foot down and it just keeps on pulling and pulling (140 kmh and still going) gonna have to watch the mobile speed cameras in this thing. I mean that, many years ago I traded in a V8 Falcon for a diesel 4x4 Hilux, I'd had the V8 (and I drove it like a V8 ) for about 8 years, I had the diesel for 3 days and was booked for speeding Then again, I suppose in one of these things I could always see if they can catch me first (just kidding !!!)

It's an amazing blast for such a little car I understand all to well Russ, my last car was a BA GT, and all I miss is the sound....certainly not the time spent at the bowser!
I drove that beast HARD, mostly for the sound, and rarely had any police trouble. I had my VW for a few weeks before I was posted a nice pictorial reference of me dispatching a Saab turbo from the lights...

The downside to all that fun is I rotated my tyres last night at 15k's and the fronts are VERY worn, and *might* have made 20k's had I not swapped them.

And I usually have traction control ON!

                  Damn Torque!

I know what you mean about the torque, I think I'm going to have to have a few kilograms of lead removed from the sole of my right shoe but even then the temptation is bound to get the better of me On another note, when I was talking to the salesman yesterday he was telling me that some guy rocked into the yard a couple days after I left the XR6 with them as a deposit (about 4 weeks ago) and wanted to take it for a test drive. He was apparently dressed in a nice suit and tie, very business like, showed them his driver's licence, they photocopied it and off he went for a test drive. They found the car a week later only a few K's away minus the wheels. He said that the car itself looked as though it had been vacuumed and washed and everything else was untouched, the guy must have been a couple sandwiches short of a picnic (or maybe not ) he certainly did alright out of it, if he was the one that knocked them off that is. They suspect that he thought the car was his but then suddenly realised it wasn't and thoroughly cleaned it and then drove it and parked in a nice quiet street a few k's away and left it. The local hoons probably took the rims. They were only standard BA MKII rims, although it did have brand new tyres . They apparently asked the cops for help and it was like "well you gave him the keys what do you want us to do about it" so maybe there is a message there for anyone selling privately as well ( don't let anyone test drive your car on their own) The car yard sent a couple of the boys around to the guys home address and some old lady (probably his gran) tells them that "he know live here no more" enough said. I'll stop there !!!!

Yeah, if they turn up on foot, look out.

Awesome looking car! My Dad doesn't want a DSG GT TDi if he gets one, even though they are technically better, the manual is just more fun.

Well I managed to clock up just over 400 klms on the w/e and the fuel gauge is still reading just under 2 thirds of a tank . I haven't been thrashing it but not playing around either. This beast is absolutely amazing , if I had been driving the XR6 the way I have been driving the GT Sport it would have been reading empty long ago I'm sure . This is like having the best of both worlds, heaps of grunt and fantastic fuel economy to go with it. I'm lovin' it !!!!

hell yeah you made the right choice.

my mate was potentially going to get a job in berlin- he told me on the way up to buller one day that he'd take a pic of him in berlin, with a new sport gt tdi and send it to me to make me envy him.... i told him that if he did that, i would rape him.

im not gay, but for a car that sweet, revenge-rape is something i'll make an exception for lol
