Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buying a 2012 Scirocco R

    Hello Everyone!
This is my first post on this forum, been lurking around for quite some time now. I have finally made the decision to buy a 2012 Scirocco R. I would just like to know what I should be looking out for when it comes to inspecting these brilliant machines. Are there any common serious problems I should look out for when it comes to purchasing one? The last thing I want is to buy one and then having to spend a lot more money fixing it up.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

As far as I know the Scirocco R doesn't have any of the bugs that some other VW models are prone to. Just make sure the servicing has been done on time and by a VW specialist mechanic or dealer. If it has 60,000km or more make sure they did the DSG service.

Thanks a lot for your response! Yes I remember reading some information about the DSG service. Thanks again, appreciate it!

Nothing major to go wrong with these but I'd still get a pre-purchase check done. Look at the major maintenance costs (brakes, tyres, major service, rego) as well as condition of rims and body and take all of these into consideration with what you offer.

        Good luck with your hunt!
