Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Brakes!

Hi guys I have a 2012 Scirocco and I'm getting close to needing to replace the rotors.
Do my question is what have people done either aftermarket or is replacing them with stock rotors the way to go.

    Cheers in advance

You'll be fine with any of the European brands, like ATE, Textar, Zimmermann, etc.

RDA, DBA, etc will probably last longer, but it won't stop as good, and they'll be prone to warping.

I've heard of problems with RDA rotors warping and cracking but I've had my DBA's glowing red at track days without issue (aside from surface cracks which is normal with this level of abuse) and they're only T2's

RDAs will probably let you down but DBA are a quality product. I'd get the 4000 series with a plain face.

Give Brakes Direct a call for options.

Otherwise, micksgarage.com has several brands including Mintex and delivery is only $25.

Drop me a message if you need a quote on parts or replacement mate. Mostly used textar discs and found them comparable to OEM.

Just placed an order for the DBA2808S Street Series T2 Slotted Brake Rotor. $346 shipped to my door. I will probably install them myself.
I am due for my 60 000km service as well... so I will be quite light in the pocket by the end of next week lol

So you only replaced the rotors & not the pads? Possibly not a great idea.

haha no i just haven't bought the pads yet, just ordered the rotors today. Haven't decided on a set yet. I have used DBA with Ferodo performance pads before and really liked the price/performance as a combo. Ferodo seems to be hard to find online here in qld

I've found from previous experience that bricks and mortar retailers sell them too.
