  • Back looking for a Rocco...or Golf R

    Hey guys.

Probably been asked before, but couldn't find much info, I'm having a tough time trying to decide between a Scirocco (my original plan and started looking again) or a Golf R (benefits of 4 doors).

How did you make the decision? Other issue seems a lot more deals for decently priced R's at the moment than Sciroccos (which is surprising as so many of them have been on carsales for 3+ months), guessing they are harder to sell.

Had a decent deal on a VG Scirocco, but really poor service history so avoided it (now sitting in the dealership as they also wouldn't make a deal).

Stuck on which way to go (yeh understand personal choice), but both are such nice cars in their own right.

Nice 2012 Golf R on carsales for 33k too. Might go look at it, wonder why it hasn't sold yet.

    Cheers.

    Hi Michael,

Very tough choice. Personally I don't believe there is anything that's looks close to a Scirocco that I would even consider buying. As it is FWD it will feel a tad quicker in my opinion and I just love everything about it. Obviously a tad bit rare in my book as there aren't any Aus delivered lower specs as per the golf.

Both great cars but wouldn't change my choice for the world. Got myself the white and looks fantastic with black accents.

I'm sure you would be over the moon with anything you get but the DCC suspension control is a must have for me.

Best of luck with the hunting and don't settle for second best is my advice.

      Thanks Carbyfed.

Bit my feelings too. But rarity = people trying to get a premium (obviously) for their cars. I'm on a bit of a budget (rather finance restrictions being self employed) so finding a good deal under what I'm allowed to spend (the accountant) is the hardest part.

Do I need to worry about finding one in warranty, or are they pretty good in terms of relatively low issues that I can just consider that a bonus, but not a necessity.

      Thanks.

      Thanks.

            Thanks.

I have had the Roc for 6 months and have racked up 30k klm. ( I'm an area manager ). No issues at all as yet touch wood. I would have absolutely no problems at all buying outside of warranty as it would certainly make up my mind in tuning. Only recommendation is to get a good set of tyres all round as your playing with good power. I personally like Nitto Invo's as I believe they deliver great handling in both dry and wet conditions but a tad noisy ( can't always win ).

I always quietly think that all golf owners wished theirs looked at least marginally as slick as the Roc when pulling up next to them.

I love mine and having a hard time even contemplating to to go to next in June, unfortunately I dislike the new model.

I'll join the bandwagon and my vote goes to the Roc, I've had mine for nearly two years and I still get people asking exactly what it is. They are reasonably rare to see around which I quite like. It's awesome fun, even more so with a stage 1 tune I usually swap cars every couple of years or so but I honestly don't want to part with the Roc as I can't find anything quite like it.

I too have wondered why that R has not sold yet. It ticks all the boxes with the options I would like and looks really clean.
If it wasn't 2,000kms away I would def have a look at it.

just sent a pm as I'm in the process of bringing myself to sell. Now reading these comments i know I'm going to regret it,

i have had mine since 05/2012. bought new. tested both the Golf and Roc R models. the Golf is still a golf. nothing looks as smart as the scirocco. IMO the bonnet and front grill gives it it's character but the coupe is what sold me when i had them parked side by side. so aggressive!

took a cousin and myself out country on a camping trip to Stanthorpe (no seats available in dads 4wd so had to take a 2nd car) and it wasn't until then i truly appreciated the cars full value.. through tight, winding, hilly country roads with no towns, traffic or anything for km's i started to open it up. it's then you really appreciate 'sport mode' and the confidence you get is an amazing feeling. taking the turns at pace you'd expect to be thrown around but you're locked into the moulded bucket seats and just enjoying it. even down to the moulded steering wheel, its just complete joy. Then when you done with the fun and want a cruise you slip into comfort, tame it down and it does the job fine.

as above, still people ask what it is, they have no idea what a scirocco is, but you always get a wave from the golf's or other scirocco's you may pass by, the golfs always want to have a go they must feel they need to prove themselves agains the rocos? lol. I always get complimented on the colour (viper green).

Thanks for all the comments. My feeling too....gf thinks the Scirocco looks heaps better and not just 'like a Golf' as well, so bonus.

Now looking for one, DSG. Might have found one, but nothing locked in..as yet.

ha ha, I honestly can't find anything else at the moment that I would trade mine for and I usually chop and change cars every couple of years. Now with stage 1 its even more fun
Moved over to the bayside about 12 months ago, haven't been over Sunnybank way for a while so it wouldn't have been me. I do recall seeing another white Roc in that area though.
