Personally, I think there is a quality problem with these cars. Or to hit price points they are making the cars with the base minimum materials to do the job as predicted by their theoretical design & planning.

My car has gone from nothing abnormal to do with Oil, to having to check Oil every second fuel tank refill. I can see now that it eats oil and I have to do top-ups. The car can't do a standard service interval without top-ups any more. Never used to have to do top-ups.

Something has taken a turn for the worse in the car and the engine, no tune, no performance mods, nothing, 100% stock car with all service carried out at VW dealers. Just as recommended by VW.

Im hoping this is the case - car is too low to get under but I have narrowed it down to a leak on the right passenger side of the vehicle, and possibly a hose. Its so crowded down there its very hard to tell.
Ill be going to the workshop thats done all the work on the car to date so feel comfortable they'll only rip me off to the industry accepted level

        Good luck with this shimee,
now that you're armed with this info, should not be too much trouble to check the dipstick and coolant level once you get you car back and all is fixed by the workshop/mechanic.

Just to update - the coolant issue was a split hose, all fixed.

Sadly, today I was driving to a client meeting and before jumping on the freeway I noticed the clutch (I have the manual) had more 'play' than normal. Definitely felt different. On the return trip I exited the freeway and changed down gears and the clutch stayed completely depressed to the floor. I managed to find a safe spot to pull over. Reached down and was able to pull the clutch back out. Sat there for a while pondering what to do, a few presses seemed to show it was working again and i was able to hobble it into my work carpark just a km or two away. So now my car is parked in the CBD in an underground carpark and I'm not too sure I want to drive it.

Anyone got any ideas what this might be?

What a bummer! Sorry to hear that shimee. perhaps it needs a serious service or recall, to make sure there is no safety risk from other mechanical parts.

do a quick search on google on clutch stuck down on golf and you will see a few people have had the same issue and some options.
For me, i'd just get it to a dealer as it would be covered under warranty.
If you cant drive it there, you have road side assist so can get it towed there for nothing

Yes the plan is to get the car towed to my workshop tomorrow. Ill get them to assess it and then make a call on whether or not to go to the dealer for warranty (means paying for the mods to be removed first to avoid VW rejecting it), or to just have them do the work to fix.

I did google and if its the CSC it sounds like a very labour intensive job.

I'm thinking I'll change workshops after all this is done. They damaged my car putting it on the hoist while fixing the previously mentioned cooling issue last week. It was damage to the underside of the side skirt. They were decent enough to fess up about it when its not even visible unless under the car, and will be getting it repaired at their expense. It still makes me wonder if anything else might have been impacted. Apparently they use boards to get cars as low as mine on the hoist and one of them sprang up under the car and cracked the plastics.

hopefully it all gets sorted for you and you can start enjoying the car again.

                    Guys,
                    Seeking your advice.

If ones clutch fails and the mechanic repairs it by replacing the master cylinder, to the tune of $750 dollars, and I picked it up and the exact issue was occuring only 500m up the road so had to return the car to workshop, would you expect that payment to be refunded? I am now faced with the prospect of further investigation and repairs, possibly the slave cylinder which requires the entire transmission to be removed. Given the fault was not resolved at all, shouldnt they offer to refund me this money?

                    What's the position on this?

                      sorry to hear mate.
I sure would be pissed off big time, personally i would have tried my luck with VW first under warranty.

I am not sure where you stand with this, but man i do feel for you
