Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2014 Scirocco Facelift Revealed

Guys, spied this one on autoblog this morning:

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines - Autoblog

Looks like very slightly revised exterior styling, and the R will get the updated engine. Interior looks pretty heavily revised.

Not sure what to think.. I like the more defined front and the new lights, but that rear..
I suppose we wont see it until at least end 2015

I kind of agree... I'm not excited about any of it. The rear end it pretty ordinary, maybe the tailights are OK. The front maybe I like the DRLs now in the headlights, that's cool.

The wheels are the worst part I think...

I love the interior. After driving a MK 7 GTi for a week, that's what I'm most jealous about, and now more so now that I've seen these pics.

Pretty much what you would expect for a refresh. Like the seats, interested to see the colours. Not too excited about the rest. Interesting that they quote 206kw from the new engine which I think is the same as the S3 and Golf R but in these cars produces 221kw (in Europe).

Will need to wait until 2017 for the all new model.

not a fan of the backside, interior looks nice and the front is ok with me.
wont make me want to upgrade from mine though

I guess those are modular component, perhaps can be switched over easily if you like any (or some) of them to go on your rocco.

I can see bits and pieces of the Beetle in the make-up. Not doing it for me unfortunately

I would rather keep the current model, with the interior upgrades, maybe led tail lights but not those.

I have to say that I'm disappointed by the interior. It still closely resembles the Mk5 Golf (eg centre stack and console, transmission tunnel), albeit with current-generation components. It's not a bad style, it's just that it's been around for a decade.

I actually like some vents at the rear, but this one looks a little funny on the rocco, perhaps same design works better on the MK7 Golf R

Too bad that they are keeping the old engine in it and just adding extra power, where they should be putting in the new engine which the MK7 golf R will have.
It is the new R engine ( EA888 ). It just has a different tune. The old engine wasn't Euro VI compliant.

I presume the EA888 tune for the new Roc is because of front wheel drive- ita about 15kw shy of the golf R/S3 Spec. As for the rest you have to recognise its not yet built on the MQB platform so it is simply a nip and tuck - some bits more successful than others. I' m not sure how well it's going to sell as they try and eck three mores years from it.

                              Personal opinion...

Sad to see they're adopting the bonnet curves of the new Golf. We currently own a plain Mk6 118TSI, and we were seriously waiting for the Mk7 series to come out to maybe jump on the Golf R. That bonnet design totally killed it for us.

The Scirocco is handling the new bonnet better, but still a step back, IMHO.
