EULA's have nothing to do with *how* to actually use/operate the software - it's a legality document

As per your findings, 3 out of 8 people read the manual of their car - a low percentage
But when you have a problem with the car - the manual should be your first port of call
From memory it will say something like the car can use up to 0.5L per 1,000km

Your oil light came on after 9,000km - that's spectacular for a FSI/TSI engine
Many of us get a low oil warning light every ~3,000km, and it's still well within the factory specifications in the manual

You're having problems with the car and maybe the agent
Google VW customer care and call them to get assistance and escalate the matter

Honestly, thinking back, when I picked it up, it was the first Scirocco R the dealers had seen and I was told by the sales manager that all the "boys" were so jealous of me taking the car away. It had 42KMs on it, compared to my other brand new cars it seems like a lot. I wonder if the "boys" took it out for a test drive on the local bendy hilly roads.

Nope. Not at all. I am saying when I pay someone to do a job I expect it to be done properly. I think it is perfectly acceptable to expect a job well done from Volkswagen.

I have now understood that Volkswagen people are not trained and it is a luck of the draw to get some one who actually knows what they are doing.

Your engine most likely used less than 25% or less of the oil which not bad at all.

So why has it not used this much for the last two years and only now? Has something changed in my engine? I know it doesn't leak as I park indoors and there is nothing on the Garage Floor.

Are you saying you take your car every week or 500km to the dealer to have the oil level checked?
I don't think you do, so tell me what part of that it is your responsibility to check under the bonnet on regular basis you don't understand?

I think it's quite clear that the driver need to check the oil level between the services.
Stop assuming and blaming others or looking for the excuses.
What's your profession anyway, so I can use some example, try to explain to you a bit better.

I think that it's purposely written to be overly complicated & make most people just click ""Ï agree"". I have actually gone to the trouble of reading EULAs as I worked in IT for an ASX50 company for a while. As a personal user I don't bother as my translation is "if you don't like it , tough"

It does say. You just aren't looking in the right spot.

As I said before, you need 504/507 spec or 502 is fine for top-ups. I'm not talking gibberish - that's how VW rate their oils. Go to SCA - they should have a 20% off sale today. will cost you $65ish for 5 L

Maybe the technician or apprentice that did your oil change last time didn't put quite as much oil in as they should have.

500ml is about the difference between the top mark of the dipstick to the bottom and aslong as it is in that area of the dipstick then most wont keep topping it up to the exact top.

From time to time I look at them and read a portion of it, but definitely if something goes wrong with the device (similarly to yours running low on the oil), the first step is I go and look for the documentations and check whether I do everything right before I go to attack the service department or call them.

The engines in the past (20 years ago) were using 20W50 oil compared to 5W30 in your car today. They also were producing less kW/kg, running a fewer accessories, the servicing intervals were 5,000km to 10,000km and so on.

Please, take this discussion and responses in this thread as others are trying to help you and not that they just have a go at you.
Your oil consumption doesn't appear to be excessive from what you have posted and it's normal for the engine to use a bit more oil if you suddenly drive under a different conditions or change your driving style.

I understand and appreciate the legalities of the separation of entities.

From a consumer point of view and what the Department of Fair Trading see, they are an authorised representatives and I do not need to view them as individuals.

As it was said on this thread (I think) work done/parts supplied under warranty by the dealer is backed/supported/funded/authorised by VW DSS ticket.

I am fine with this thread and I am taking corrective steps as required. Such as checking oil and buying top-up oil for future use.

Everyone has a point of view and their expertise, I just need to work out what I will do with it.

And I now have Oil!


I got the Service Department to top this up for me. I have just gotten home and checked the level again here and it is now past the Arrow point for Max and well up towards the end of the word Max.


It seems like they have put too much oil in? The manual says not to go past the top mark (Arrow point).

Should I just leave it now?

The VW 502/504/507 oil specifications are what you need
Just purchase any oil that is approved/certified to that specification level

Penrite oils are a good place to start
