Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • car wouldnt start

Had an interesting experience today with my rocco

got back to my car after work, unlock it via the key remote.
Jump in, place key into ignition, and nothing.

no dancing needles, no depress clutch to start message.

the radio and everything else worked as per normal though.

turn the key to start and nothing, no lights on the dash.

try a couple more times, and still nothing.

jump out, lock and unlock, try again, same deal..then all of a sudden, it just worked again as per normal.

    anyone else experience this?

Hmm, didn't realise it used Windows Operating System.

Perhaps its the DSG lock out that needed a shake. Assuming
    yours is..

he he, thought the same thing regarding windows

not a DSG issue as mine is a manual and when you turn the key to the first spot, it says depress clutch before starting and the dash dial do the dancing sweep, this time it did none of it

Sounds like issue with the battery, so no warning icons whatsoever? That is odd, the battery gets charged daily I suppose you drive it every day?

doubt its a battery issue. Has started fine the last 3 times today, and yea, car gets driven daily and is only 10 months old

yep no warning icons at all lit up on the dash board, nothing, dead...

but all other features worked fine

must be windows based for sure

Take it into your local dealer to get it checked mate, VAS/ODIS can bring up stored codes and events, even if they happend thousands of km's ago.. Always worth a visit especially if the car is still under warranty, might also save yourself getting stranded in the future.

Get them to check the key - its coded to the car and the battery may be an issue.

if it was the battery in the key, would it not also effect the central locking and alarm part of it?

Depends, I had a key on my old XR4 where it would sometimes not allow me to open the car by pushing the buttons, but would let me start the car.

Turned out it was a dud key and had to get it replaced.

I have had to get my battery replaced by calling the VW Assist line.

I started the car in the morning and took an extra kick over to start and I thought strange but no matter.
                          All was fine.

In the evening I tried to start the car again to go out, and it didn't start on the first turn. I had to then kick it over again and it started. At that point I thought this is really strange.

I drove for about 40 minutes, stopped to get fuel, got back in the car to start. And Dead.

I bought my car on 30 Dec 2011 and I had around 44K on it.
