  • astra opc vs the roc

Hey Kazsiddique, yeah I had a test drive in the OPC Astra, Megane Renaultsport and the Rocco. The Astra was a very difficult one to turn down solely based on value for money, the sales guy was willing to drop $5000 without me really even asking, I reckon they could knock a bit more off as well. It didn't sound as good as the Rocco and didn't actually feel as quick either. The seats were awesome but I had a mate in the back on the test drive and he didn't think it was as comfortable. So much included as standard though, it was a close decision but still glad I ended up with the Scirocco. Maybe if they had the Astra in blue with the 20" wheels then it might have swayed my decision. I had resale in the back of my mind, no one is too sure how the Astra will go with that. The Megane wasn't that great, they rave about it on the track but I didn't think much of it on the road.

Yeah its still looking cheap on the inside, I wasnt a fan of the seats tbh, they made an awful noise when u adjusted the side supports, and the dash and all laxks class. The extra grunt its a force tho, but I have apr stage one and mine felt yards quicker after I left the dealership. No sunroof option either, but fully specd he was selling for 53k and considering I got mine fully specd without leather for 55k shipped from vic to perth its not that different. I can see why ppl would buy one tho. The Megan is a track car for the road whereas the roc / boynce for its wide curves is road car for the track do they are vastly different. Wonder how thr opc will sell ....no doubt theyll fly off the floor like a can of redbull...

      Dr kaz out!

*spotted* Kaz's blue roc at Burswood Opel on Friday 26th April.

Yes my mate from the Opelaus forum bought a blue one with 20" wheels from that dealer and took me for a spin last Fri night.
Speaking from my experience of owning the previous OPC (HSV VXR in Aus), the power delivery remains the same: a bit laggy in low rpms but when boost comes in it pulls like mad. Very different power curve from our Rocs which is more linear. It's a different kind of excitement. It's the power rush that makes it addictive. It also has leather heated Recaros (like the old OPC) and this time it comes with electrically adjustable bolsters. Dang! Little cool touches here and there such as the speedo turning red when the OPC sport button is pressed does add extra points.

I sampled the Megane prior to buying the Roc, and as fast as the magazines claim it to be, the interior is utter rubbish. A mazda 3 has a better dashboard layout than that. Heck, even the FT86 looks nicer inside. The fat horn on the steering wheel is something I personally can't tolerate, hence I also stayed away from the likes of Focus RS or XR5. Ride wise, no real complains cos the power delivery is quite good, and TBH it's actually more comfy than my Roc for a daily car. Well, the OPC is more comfy than the Roc too lol.

Actually, if the OPC was available when I was looking around in October last year, I would've seriously put it into consideration. Unfortunately I wasn't prepared to wait until April 2013 to get another replacement car. The Roc is still the sexy girl that caught my attention the moment I laid my eyes on it, and although the new OPC does look damn good, I think the Roc still sexier. Never regretted the purchase!

Absolutely Dizzydumb, the Megane interior was woeful and I assume Renault will address that in the next revision or incarnation of the car as they have with the new Clio. I didn't even bother with the Focus as Ford can't seem to work out how to create an aesthetically pleasing interior, the whole Nokia phone style centre console just doesn't work for me. I like the interior to be simple and clean, which did put me off the Astra. It was a cool car though, if they reduce the interior button clutter then I would definitely take another look at it in the future. Love the beautiful lines of the Rocco though.
