  • New Scirocco R race car build

As some of you may know, we have embarked on a new race car build (track only) based on a new 2012 Scirocco R DSG.

The donor car was water damaged & marked as a "Statutory Write-off" so can't be registered. It had also been raoded of some parts used to fix another Scirocco.

We also have another 2012 DSG Scirocco for spare drive line, engine & transmission.

I recently spent a good few weeks in Germany & the UK swatting up on what & how we will build the car, I had some close up & personal time with one of the genuine GT24 wide bodied Scirocco's. A lot of time at Volkswagen Racing's headquarters and going through the cars they use in the Volkswagen Racing cup (which feature a lot of Scirocco's now), on cage setups, suspension, aerodynamics, ABS / Pedal boxes & brakes.

Anyway, as the build progresses, we will try to keep this thread up to date.

Asking any Scirocco owners to keep their eyes out for any damaged R's they may see around the place - at the dealer, workshops, wrecking yard or panel shops. We need some front end parts (even if damaged), including a bumper bar cover and a dash cover (even if air bags gone off). Will happily pay a spotters fee if someone comes up with the right stuff

Here are a couple of pics: (once I work out why the links dont work.....)

Yep - for sure Anthony! - good thing being a race car (unlike the rest of our cars which remain street cars) we can pull a heap of weight out of different area's & then if needed to put it back in different places.

Its nice to have about 60kg's of tubes for protection around you to make you feel secure

Brilliant Any crazy plans to convert to AWD like some overseas tuning companies are offering or are you happy with FWD with its light weight benefits?

TT found a new home in Sydney & a new enthusiastic owner who knows his stuff - hopefully it'll be running at Wakefield at the VW Nats.

Happen to have plenty of current driveline bits for the 2.0T so made more sense. Just have to do it as budget allows.

Let you know if we find another. The blue one was hit hard front LH pillar, so dash skin is OK, but would love to find a better one.....

Looks awesome. Hopefully you find a light enough video camera to mount inside as well
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Waiting for the money tree to grow a bit more - we have secured a new dash shell and most of the front end parts now. hopefully sending it off for the roll cage soon!

DSG is faster - will be sticking to DSG's from now on - we have worked them out. Look at how clean that is with no gear lever - just the flappy paddles
