  • Moisture in headlight

Had this issue for over two weeks, car has moisture in passenger side headlight,
no cracks are visible on the lens, and I have not use a high pressure near it for some time.

Took it to the dealership and two techs just scratched their head and said it looks fine ( other than the water inside it)
will be taking it back in a few weeks if it doesn't clear up

Took the two covers off the back of the globes and left it in the sun, this cleared it up, but a few hours later it was back!

any one else having these issues?

I've got one that does it on rainy days - not sure what to think

Damn, that's no good. I haven't noticed mine, but next time it's a bit damp I'll have a look. I'm sure there's some sort of safety issue behind this to warranty the dealer to take this more seriously. I mean, if headlamp washers are a safety requirement for HID headlamps to keep them clear/beams pointed straight so as to not blind people, then a headlamp that looks like someones bathroom after a shower should be of concern for them.

Apparently it's normal, and may go away after some more time.

I would reckon thats not normal. That left headlight has a leak somewhere. Condensation is tooooo heavey for normal atmospheric breathing due the headlight being on.

Light misting like in the photo of Robbie73 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 11:45 am on the first page of the topic is the norm.

I had this light misting originally i recall, ( car is now 4 months old) this is more like water from a leak, and has hung around for two weeks. Popping the caps at the back and leaving it in the hot sun seems to clear it up, but put the caps back on, and a few hours later its wet again.

"The glass must be clear about 30 minutes after switching on the lamps. If this isn't the case or drips run down the inside of the glass, check the lamps for leaks."

That definitely does not look the case above!

Just wondering what was the outcome of your headlight? Mines starting to do it now LHS only, really annoys me as it looks terrible.

This might sound like stupid idea but has anyone tried putting a hair dryer into it on low settings for awhile? then maybe vacuum any residual moist air up then put the environmental cover on? should help a little right?

I actually did this back then, popped the back let it dry and then hairdryer.

Have had ZERO issues since I did it almost 12 months ago

Iv replaced my headlight assembly twice due to condensation killing left hand side Hid...both under warranty. Second time however, it took me over 4 months to have it replaced as vw tried to put the blame on me. I proved them otherwise and reluctantly the GM agreed. But it's not normal and if the build up stays for long enough the HIDS will burn out...
