Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Windows tinted - now these clips don't clip - what's missing?

Hello to all who know more than me...

I just got my windows tinted on my Scirocco, and whilst the actual tint job is excellent, I now have these clips:

    That go in here:

And they no longer stay in - is there a part or clip missing that the tinting guys didn't put back in?

    Thanks in advance,
    Shane.

Did the clip get damaged? Maybe the two "thingies" (can't think of the engl. name ATM...) which hold it in get bent/damaged?

I can't see any damage on what I have in the first picture - although it looks like there should be something going into that hole (a screw or some other part?) in the second picture. I don't know as I have nothing to compare it to :/

      Shane.

I can't see it from the pix properly, but it looks like there is nothing for the clip to lock into as the prongs seem to hook in side-ways? Maybe you are right & there is a bit missing...

Hoping someone else can take a look at their Scirocco and tell me if there is a part missing, and possibly take a photo so I can show the tinting guys and/or VW so I can get it fixed.

          Thanks,
          Shane.

            Thanks,

Yep.. those "clips" are covers for the retaining screw. They should be on... see my pic for how it should look.
From your picture it also looks like they left out the retaining screw.

OK, after chatting with VW, it seems there are no retaining screws, and that when removed the clips I've shown above need to be "bent slightly outwards" to make the shape correct and allow the clips to attach. All done now and they stay in. Crisis averted.

              Shane.
