  • Thanks ....

I'll see how many Roc's I can see in the wilds of East Anglia. Thinking of visit Lotus given i'm in that part of the world.

I was hoping to time this trip with GTI international http://www.gtiinternational.co.uk.but can't manage to do it and the next trip will fall into mid July. I month either on both counts. Aaarrggh!!

    • So i'm staring to think about some mods for the Roc.

For the moment i'm happy with the performance but would like to lower the ride height a little, nothing too radical and replace the standard wheels.

Have been looking at lots of wheels on the net. I think the talle's are visually a bit heavy but think with the indium i need to stick to a predominantly silver wheel. As much as i like the route Con has gone down, the bronze doesn't work with grey. Nor in my opinion does the charcoal (grey on grey) that Bec has had done to her Talle's. I think silver works with the indium as I'm not into black wheeks full stop.

      Any way have seen these:

Scirocco Central • View topic - My black Scirocco: *New wheels fitted*

Yes they are standard VW wheels but they look good, will be a bit different and fit the car. A bit more agressive than the standard I think.

Any opinions? I'm talking here about the look, not dynamics or reducing sprung weight etc.

Also keen to hear any thoughts on which springs to install. ATM I'm thinking VWR or H and R. The purpose is to remove the slightly on stils look But want to maintain the use of ACC so not thinking of spending the kind of money required to fit the KW adaptive set up.

      Again thoughts and opinions welcome

      • There's an indium grey Roc in Sydney rocking black rims. They look like ADVs (or VMRs). It looks insanely good Ian. Just my two cents. Grey and black goes. Alternatively, if you wanted something along the lines of mine, a copper colour would go. Have a look on vwgolfnet. There's an Audi with HREs in copper in the picture thread. I think it looks amazing.

Those rims in the link are nice. Much better than the tallas.

My feedback on springs: go all out and do coilovers. My back is starting to hurt with my H&Rs haha. Not kidding. It's a rough ride. I can't use Sports mode. It's too rough. Maybe others don't mind as much but I do. Stock shocks also aren't going to last forever with a reduced ride height. Expect to look at changing them after 30k or so.

I wish I had done coils from the start.

        • I agree with Con I think Black wheels look great on a grey car. My original colour on order was an Indium Grey and was considering Black or an anodised red for my wheels I like to mix things up) but a white car came up first. Silver still works though! It really comes down to personal taste.

            • Thanks for your thoughts. I agree the concept R car looks great i'm just not keen on black wheels, most of the intricate detail design work gets lost withnthe black I think. I do like thevdesign of these wheels though. Maybe I'm just being too conservative!

Con i think the standard ride is very accepable so would not like to change that too much. I'll look into coil overs as you suggest. In no rush to do this so am happy to do some more research. Thanks for your thoughts.

                Hi Mac
I really like the wheels in those pics... as you say.. different and aggressive and if done in the anthracite there is a good amount of Silver to keep it looking good.

As for springs...I have to say I am extremely happy with my Eibach's. The ride has actually improved dramatically over stock to the point where I ONLY use Sports mode these days... I couldnt do that with the OEM springs.
They lowered mine about 15mm which, given that I have now scraped the front a few times is more than enough
The VWR springs are about the same drop as mine and they are also made by Eibach, so the emphasis is on ride and handling rather than getting it real low.

Dont stress over the shocks... they will last a lot longer than 30K, the small amount the car is lowered has no effect on the shocks in terms of lifespan at all.
If you dont want to go super low I personally dont see the point in spending the $$ on Coilovers... just my opinion of course.

The Concept X car actually has Iridium grey wheels, not black

Nevertheless, the wheels and colour still look good.

                  • Bain - the fact that the wheels are grey may explain why there is more deail in the pic than you often get with black. I wil have a look at those wheels.

Andy, i think a 15-20 mm drop will achieve what I want. It will just relieve that jacked up look.

If we think the R looks a bit like it is on stilts then having seen lots of standard and GT models in the UK recently there is a sort of X6 look about them. They really do look elevated.

                          • The Concept X is nice.

Bec just can't do black - maybe a graphite or something like that. Still considering some options. To me you loose most of the design detail with black wheels they finish up looking like smudges sitting inside the wheel arches. Look at Andy's pic above most of the design work in those wheels is lost because of the black and the fact that not much freflects from them.

Down to personal choice of course!!!

                            • I agree Ian, mine were meant to be Anthracite but arrived as Dark Grey.
That pic doesn't do them any favors mind, iPhone pic on a dreary day.
It also doesn't help that they are a satin finish so not much gloss to reflect any light.
I like the wheels but I have my eye on something a little different now, lol.
                              It is never ending

                                I understand Ian

Black wheels look great if the design is simple and there's enough space between the spokes to show the brakes.

So a black wheel with 10 single spokes.. forged.. would look hot.. for example..

Tallies in black don't do it for me.. I love my tallies in the graphite that I have, but I wanted something different again.. It really never ends.
