In the early 1980s when Audi Sport & VW Motorsport were competing against each other to get there Special Vehicles approved for limited production and Rally/Circuit Racing, Audi leading with there Audi Quattro in the Rally versions and Production versions.
Under Klaus-Peter Rosorius VW Motorsport then started to experiment with two engined prototypes with FWD, RWD or AWD configuration.
The 1st of these prototypes being the Jetta TwinJet Study powered by two 110bhp/81kW GTI/GLI engines one at the front under the bonnet and one in the boot(trunk) which combined gave 220bhp/160kW @ 6100rpm.
