Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

What's the likelihood of finding a Corrado VR6 in Oz (NSW)?

Thanks for that Carpoid - it's enough to make a grown man cry you know!?!? Now are you SURE that I can't convince you to sell it to me when I get to Oz?? Think about it, there's no need to make any hasty decisions yet but rest assued it will go to a good home!?!?
Well, you can't blame a guy for trying, can you?? Much as I'm tempted to buy a Corrado now I don't really have the cash until we've sold the house. We've also got a fair bit to sort out before we go - on top of all that, the bozo's that video'd our wedding last month are being complete and utter pricks so I may even have to take them to court.....I ****ing hate this country - roll on Oz!!

Hi Jay, I can only say that I'm disappointed in you mate - I mean, you sounded a fair dinkum sort of chap but you want to hang on to both of your Corrados is just way too greedy!?!?
What ones have you got though? I had a 1990 silver 16v'er that hadn't had any mods done to it. When I had the Mk4 Golf I was planning on getting it chipped up to around 200bhp but then we decided to emigrate, start a family and get married.....anything for a stress-free life eh!??!.....so that kind of put paid to that idea!?!?

Mate, I hear what you're saying but we've about 7 weeks to get the house sold, all the crap we're taking with us in a container and sell the rest of the stuff that we're not taking with us...We've already had one buyer pull out so I'm not taking anything for granted this time round.
I would dearly love to add yet more stress to our lives but (a) until the house is sold I won't have the cash and (b) the wife would let me live long enough for her and our daughter to get into Oz (they need me to be with 'em, and alive, to validate their visas!) but you'd then prob'ly see me floating face down in the harbour!!!!!
I wish I'd found this forum over a year ago as the other forum that I did find recently (I forget which one it was??) led me to believe that unless I'd owned/driven a Corrado for a year or more then I wouldn't be able to import it? Anyway, I'm going to have to work on Jay - hope he gets some pics of his posted soon (no pressure of course!?!?). The only other car I'd really like (possibly in addition to a Corrado!) is a Mk2 Golf GTi 16v, big bumper jobby!! I saw a gorgeous metallic green one on the way into work - I think it BBS alloys and a few other mods and it darn near made me forget, for a moment, about Corrados!!!!!

You`ll be spewing about how few VWs there are here.
Bring something with you. 16v 2 door golf, scirocco or corrado would be rare as hell here. Its easy all you do is drive to Southamton, put onto a ferry costs 1000quid. When its on its way and you are in oz, get an import permit, pay no duty if its pre 1988 and collect from the docks.
There were 300 MK2 golfs brought to Oz in 1990-1993, No sciroccos, No corrados and all the golfs were 5 door with downtuned engines.
Blighty is your best bet. You can get replacement engines if you were to bring a lesser corrado or non 16v car.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Lots of people here would love that Corrado, but youd have to pay import duty as if it were a new car.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

We know nothing!
No Mate... We are victims of profiteers who during the late '80s brought in a heap of Jap Crap that they bought for almost nothing but sold here in Oz at a handsome profit. Our car manufacturers/importers/dealers got a bit upset at this and called them "Grey Imports". What it came down to was that these guys were selling for cheaper than they could. Lobbying and political pressure brought legislation to all but stop this practise. It came in the guise of adherence to ADRs (most of which as discussed on this forum are bunk...apart from perhaps child restraints) and a growth industry in converting grey imports into ADR approved vehicles. Look, I know I'm a bit emotional about this topic, but I reckon that normal, law abiding Australians should be able to bring into this country a car that is or was not available here at dealerships and not be penalised for it. Once again, it's the greedy minority stuffing it up for the responsible car-loving enthusiasts like us.
