Laeving for the nats on Sat, just 2 km from home and something didn't quite feel right, Then something didn't sound right and no boost. The big hole in the top of the charger probably doesn't help.Drove back home and loaded up the S3 and made it toi Sydney anyway. Now the options
    After market blower
    Turbo the 8 valve
20vt and 6 speed lying on the floor at work
Widebody Cayman S Turbo, 83 ur Quattro
    2000 996 C4 cab,12 Scirocco R OEM+ STG2+
    72 914 (3.2S boxster pwr), 92 G60 Corrado
    76 Scirocco(TFSI and DSG) 2018 Tiguan,Eureka,81 924.

How many km had the blower covered?

I have no experience with them at all, but going off nearly every report I've read from now to early on, they are time bombs waiting to happen!

Especially if they aren't overhauled/serviced at something like 100K miles if left stock & running stock boost levels? Does this sound right?

    If you didn't have the 20vt laying around, & it wasn't a G60, I'd say 20vt all day!

    But....

as the engine is still fitted to the car & is already built to cope with boosted applications, I'd just turbo the G60.

Fit a high flowed T3 .48 A/R(which may be my next upgrade), frount mount intercooler, a tune/remap or even go standalone & you'd be looking at 230+hp on approx 15-18psi.

All on the stock engine thats already fitted!

No custom engine or gearbox mounts, brackets or any other custom made piece to be made, apart from some intercooler piping & an exhaust, which you'd already have to do if fitting the 20vt.

    Easy choice I reckon.

i agree with Tim, turbo the G60
or maybe import a Bahn brenner changer (man i love the sound on these)

I personally do not like G60's due to the fact everyone i know who has owned on they have all let go! (and i know alot of people who own them lol)

      Bahn Brenner Motorsport - Superchargers

      YouTube - Mk1 g60 running a Bahn Brenner charger...

its pricey but i love the noise

The cost of a replacement G60 is dire, although the strength of the AUD would be in your favour. Was it all standard or did it have a chip and pulley on it??

Turbo conversions are pretty popular as it will still run off the standard ECU. As long as you don't want to go mad with big turbos.

I have rebuilt a good few chargers in the past and as long as you don't leave them too long the first time, they will last for ever.

It would be a shame to fit a 20vt but it would make a quick car.

Do you have a picture of the damage?

If you have looked in the back of a Rado engine bay there isn't much room for anything.I've decided to fit a charger off a toyota 2.0l.They are the same size as a G grenade and not much to mod to fit it in the original location. At least it's still supercharged and should get hundreds of thousands of ks from it

You wouldn't do that Jarred unless you want to get overtaken by kids on skateboards. A bypassed G60 makes about 60hp or something silly.

Sorry to hear about this Pete, i still can't believe it. The Charger had done 35000 miles and was my daily driver for nearly 6 years.

Gav it sounds like the main bearing shot out of the top from what he said to me on the phone.

As to your question on what to do with it though, if it was still mine,

I'd get the spare charger out of the box and have it rebuilt by either Darren at G-Werks or Gav (h100vw) with a kit from Darren, have it built with a 68mm pulley, whilst the charger is being done i'd get that Rallye FMIC and larger Radiator in, then i'd get an SNS chip in the ECU, an oil cooler and keep it as a G60. Those mods should see an easy 200bhp.
Reason being is that i think the car should be kept with its original engine, every other car as a 4 cyl Turbo in it nowadays, don't get me wrong i think they're great but a truly unique car like this should be kept with its quirky G-Lader, especially in Australia.

Just my opinion though, good luck with what ever you decide!

                        Matt.

I vote as per what Matt said, originality IS the key to resale, specially out here where there aint to many !!

When owning a unique ( to Australia) car, you have to forgo the money you will throw at it over time, as you well know
                          Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                          Cheers,
                          Grant...

If you'd heard a well sorted G60 at full noise, you'd not fit a 1.8T in one. Sends shivers through me thinking of my GTI G60.
