Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Review from Drive (The Age) today:

          Volkswagen Up
If you're one of those who enjoy their commute rather than simply suffer it, the Volkswagen Up could be your kind of car.

It is the most enjoyable to drive - the steering is direct and quick, it holds a flat line through corners, the ride is firm but resolved - and its 1.0-litre three-pot engine offers linear power delivery. It's the quietest car here and the fuel use is decent at 4.9L/100km.

But with 55kW of power and 95Nm, it's not as powerful as the Mirage, and it does weigh a touch more. We found ourselves occasionally shifting through the gears to keep up. The manual shift action is smooth, and the clutch is nice and light.

The bad news is the Up can't be had with an automatic gearbox. All of its rivals can, and the other companies suggest self-shifters make up between 65 per cent and 75 per cent of sales.

The Up is currently priced from less than $13,000 on-road (mainly for 2012 models) for a three-door version with no bells or whistles - apart from the aforementioned auto braking system.

It has a three-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and capped-price servicing with 15,000-kilometre/12-month intervals for up to six years or 90,000 kilometres (average cost $312). There are no steering wheel audio controls, no USB input, the driver has electric controls only for their window and has to lean over to access the passenger's, and Bluetooth is also an option. More important is the lack of rear-seat airbag protection: the Up only comes with dual front and front-side airbags.

Despite its lack of key features, it does feel classy inside. The exposed paint finishes look great, and the storage is very good for both front- and rear-seat passengers. Our car was fitted with the ''Maps and More'' dash-top pod ($500), which adds Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, satellite navigation and trip computer. Very neat.

Judges were annoyed by the lack of centre air vents, while the big doors of the three-door make it difficult to get out in tight spots. The Up also has only four seats, although the boot was equal largest at 251 litres.
2013 CC 130TDI Night Blue Metallic with Driver Assistance Package, Park Assist 2, Walnut Trim and Ambient Lighting, Front Active Climate Control Seats, Towbar, and Dynaudio Premium Audio.

Re: up! Reviews (Text & Video) / News Articles

Not to take the shine off it, VW has done a great job getting this to the market, but everyone keeps reminding me that my Fabia is a Polo, but supposedly not as good.

The Up is just a cleverly marketed ( for a change) Skoda Citigo.....?
So, are Skoda actually making better cars than some people thought?

Great car for the money I must say.
