Race Tyres??

I have just recently installed my coilovers and it seems like my tyres are the next thing holding me back.

Im just purely looking for a set of tyres to use on the track. 16" to fit on standard mkiv gti wheels. I have had a bit of a hunt around but have not been able to find much.

Does anyone know where i could get some 2nd hand tyres as i dont want to spend too much and they dont have to have too much left in them as i only want to use them for sprints.

Any suggestions would be great.

Your regular tyre shops won't stock them, you need to track down the motorsport tyre specialists through the manufacturers websites. You could try them for second hand race tyres.

Personally I wouldn't use someone else's tyres on my car, tyres are probably the single most important safety feature of the car and well worth the investment.

I think nearly everyone does some sort of a semi slick track day tyre.
Toyos seem to be pretty popular having a look around the place.
I always like Pirelli, so I'll say P-Zero Corsas (not that I've used them though). Note that the Corsa Systems are the road going tyre whilst the straight Corsas are the race tyre. Who knows how much they cost though?

Kumho do a semi slick in 16".Ring John Mills on 9679 8044.
They're up near Eastern Creek.
I've been using them for years on the track.

Corsas are hellishly expensive in 18" around the $700 each.

On the street Hankook RS-2 's are the business.

They are made of an ultra high grip silica compound and have a treadwear rating of like 120. To put that in perspective P-zero Rossi's are like 180 or something.

I had RS2's on my subaru with 300kw@wheels and they gripped like limpet mines. You could do stuff around corners that was left you going "Fark thats just stoopid grip". Even with a full launch and 300kw and 535nm@ wheels my 16inch RS2 tyres would only spin for about a second in first and then grip. On a Golf it would basically eliminate wheelspin once the tyres were warm.
