That sounds ****ing nuts. The offset is too high on a 10". Your tyre or even your rim may hit the suspension because it sticks so much more into the middle of the car.
Edit:
The wheels are sitting in at about 5cm more than standard, which is a massive difference when it comes to wheel fitment. The 10" wide wheel will stick out only a little bit (12mm). Only way it'll work is with spacers, and a whole lot of fender rolling!
There's a bug with it though - it doesn't update the summary table thingy towards the bottom of the page when you change offsets and widths, so make sure you refresh the page every time you put in a new pair of widths and offsets.
Ray, with ET43 on the same width, you're looking at the same setup, except it'll clear the suspension by 5mm and poke out 5mm more compared to ET48. Think of it this way - ET43 is ET48 with 5mm spacers.
Jarred, 50mm spacers would make sense as you'll clear the suspension and any other bits under the fenders BUT Ray's Passat would look like rollerskates!
In respect to the correctly sized spacers, I don't have the answer to that... I don't know how well 10" wheels would fit under the arches of the B5 Passat. But a 10" replacing a standard 6.5", you'll have troubles no matter what!
Ray, what are the size and offset of your current wheels? We could compare that to the 10" wheel, and whatever difference there is, you could measure out to see how it might look.
