  • 5x130 Adapters? Halp!

So the mk1 has 5x130 adapters fitted. The 4x100 wheels should be arriving this week, so i thought i'd have a quick look, to see if ill have any potential set backs in transferring everything back to 4x100. Particularly because the previous owner told me he had to do some 'custom set up' in order to get the rears to work. Im met with this...

It looked pretty straight forward, take the 4 allen key bolts out and it should come right off. Negative...i've lubricated, hammered, pulled, chiselled...short of doing some damage these things are not going to budge. So i gathered maybe the 5x130 studs go through the drum itself, of course the drum won't budge until i slacken everything right off and i don't really want to play with all that when i need this car as a daily for the week.

So am i correct in thinking all of this, and is this a normal set up for adapters?
Will i need to purchase new studs?

    5x130 Adapters? Halp!

Couldn't imagine the 5x130 going through the drum..

I know mine get well stuck cause I cover them in loctite and such. Though you have tried hammering. Maybe they are just really stuck?

Thanks for the speedy reply hayden, have text the previous owner after reading what you said. Would seem ridiculous they are through the drum but thats all i can think of.

      Can i re-use the 5x130 studs?

try putting the bolts back in, but not up tight.
fit the 5x130 wheel (assuming it doesn't foul the allen key bolts)
tighten the wheel up, lower car on to the wheel, try rolling the car around etc

On of mine gone stuck, we ended up fitting some nuts to the adapter and giving them a good wack with a hammer.
took a lot of beating and doing it from both top and bottom/side to side, but it did slide if off in the end.

Once its off give the inside of centre bore on the adapter a light rub with some sand paper

just use normal bolts to fit a 4x100 wheel to your car

To confirm your theory about the studs going through the drums (which isn't normaly practice, but could be done I guess)
you can quite easily pull the drum off, but pulling out the bearing. Check your manual for the procedure, it's pretty straight forward.

Otherwise, I'd just do what dylan said. It's not uncommon for adapters to get pretty well stuck on. Hopefully the adapter hasn't been permamentally fixed to the drum (ie glue etc)
