  • Wheels screeching...

Had a set of detroits on my golf gti mk6.
it was perfect, with no noise.

Until i switched over to VMR wheels,it makes a screeching noise, when it's cold.
even when the car is straight, without any turning....

I don't know if the o-ring needs to be replaced when switching over rims...i'm sure the wheel shop, didn't do anything apart from simply replacing the wheel....

has anyone had this problem before.....? GTI mk6 with VMR wheels.

but it actually sounds like metal....
while not changing the centre rings, could it lead to this problem?

people that have changed VMR on golfs, was anything else required, apart from changing the wheels.

Are rims rubbing on the calipers Take them off and look for bright shiny marks on both.

If offset is different you could have problems

Are you talking about hub rings?
If so they don't need 'changing over' as your stock wheels wouldn't have any.
However, you need hub rings if the supplied wheel isnt 57.1 centre bore. (prob isn't being a generic wheel)

Leaving them off shouldn't make a metal noise, will just cause vibration at the start.

First thing. I know you have said screeching, but do you mean screeching or squealing? Is it metallic?

If it is squealing, then this is tyres and alignment is the only way to correct it.

If it is metallic, then something is rubbing. You should be able to jack a corner up and check it by hand. You may have to jack it somewhere so that the suspension is under normal load and then rotate the wheels to see what is causing the noise.

One last thing. Are you sure you don't have a brake wear indicator making the noise?
