  • Wheels question

    Hi guys,

My current stock wheel specifications are as follows:
    Tyre: 215/40/17
    Size: 17X7
    PCD: 5x100
    Centre bore: 57.1
    Offset: 46
    Mounting Bolt: 14 x 1,50
The car has H&R sport springs 25/40mm installed, so it has been lowered a little.

Just wondering if wheels with specs at 18X8, 5X100 ET35 (tyre 225/35/18 ) will fit my car? I know they will be 2mm closer to the suspension and will stick out 24mm, but do you think there will be other issues?

        Id just measure it yourself.
Maybe go 215/35/18s if it'll be a issue

The problem with wheels sticking out further is they can spray dirt/grit down the side of the car
(I hate mud guards from an asthetic and aerodynamic point of view)

18*8 are very large for a car of that size (even though it's a GTI)
You will end up with a 1.8% speedo error - almost 2km at 100kmph

Is the 225/35/18 tyre common and easy to get?
If not you will be paying a $ premium for them

From a comfort point of view I find I can't tollerate profiles lower than 40 (gets very harsh)
and there is some risk of tyre/wheel damage in pot holes that you didn't notice

            – Seriously...are you really worried about getting dirt on your car?

18*8 are very large for a car of that size (even though it's a GTI)
            – This is a myth, I'm sorry to inform you.

You will end up with a 1.8% speedo error - almost 2km at 100kmph
            – The speedo will be bang on 100km. How do I know this, I have the same tyre. Speedos are also set below 100 from factory.

Is the 225/35/18 tyre common and easy to get?
            – Kumho KU39 is a pretty good tyre for the coin and yes it's very easy to obtain.

If not you will be paying a $ premium for them.
            – Once again, a myth.
