Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • BBS RS 17"... Thoughts

    I currently looking at purchasing a set of 17x7.5 4x100/114.3 ET33.

Just after some advice really, I would widen them out to 17x8.5 Front & 17x9.5 Rear.

For you guys in the know, did they ever make these in 4/100/114.3??

I've got some pics and they look legit. What price would you think is reasonable??

I've only ever owned 16" versions of these so thought I'd ask..

    LVD.

        RS301 are 5x100.

Are these the set for sale on eBay (Thailand)? I'm assuming the set he has, has been redrilled. BBS RS (nor any BBS for that matter) did not come in dual stud pattern from the factory. Ask the guy to take a pic of the inscriptions on the wheel underneath the waffle plate. That should confirm everything.

Plus I don't recall any 4 stud 17" bbs Rs even if the have had a seccond stud pattern added

Would definitely be rare if there were, keeping in mind these were wheels that were made only until the early '90s. 17s back then were like, 22s right now!

Well I got all the pics and the wheels have been re drilled to 4x100 so they are now multi fit.
All the shots look good and he provided internals and even took pics with centre caps off etc.
Serial numbers are all there as well as the original BBS logos etc.
So I bought them.. 17" BBS RS here we come.
Keep a look out for a build thread on these wheels as they will be mint.....LVD

                winning.
will be interested to see what they actually are, because going off the pics with the centre cap they are defiantly not 301s from the pictures I was shown.
were 4 stud of some description, 4x100 is the second drill, but not sure if 4x114.3 was the original PCD either...

the centres appear to be 7.5 originally, and model number ends in a '4', that's all I could get from them

Yeah i thought i'd just take the gamble, could turn out to be something good.
They are def not 301s, But I will see when they get here and will post pics when they're pulled apart and go from there.
                  Pretty excited but... LVD

I got the pics too, my thoughts were that it looked rough as, maybe it's just the discoloured parts around the holes. Stock pattern looks to be 4x100 as the 114.3 PCD holes have been drilled through the original inscriptions. Probably not that bad. I love the look of the flatter spokes on 17" BBS RS!

think 4x100 Ray? looks to close to the centre cap thread to be a original BBS layout to me..
compared to how the raised threaded section on the 301s look.
makes me think something bigger then pcd of 100 and looks more like a 60 or 66 centre bore...?

Yeah that's what I thought at first, thought the 4x100 was the newer drilled pattern, but looking closely at the inscriptions, it's the bigger PCD that's been drilled over them. But like you said, the smaller PCD has been drilled through the centre-cap thread, which looks too iffy to be from the factory (what I think anyway, never seen unmolested BBS RS wheels that has drilled holes that cut over the centre-cap thread).
