How to make them fit?

I consider you creating this thread with doing absolutely no research prior, is trolling. If you think that lowering a car will provide greater clearance then you clearly have not done an ounce of research, nor have a bone of common sense in your body. There are countless threads that I have read in my search for new wheels, which tell me if I want the easy road, stick to 8" wide.

Your best bet is to try for a refund/exchange or potentially sell at a loss. 9.5" wide from what I have read, do not fit on a golf without some effort and money.

i can only assume the OP is young and naive. otherwise, if he isnt, then i guess he is just a little slow, but at least this is a life lesson

Okay well my advice to you, is learn from the lesson (as I did with my first car) and move on. My recommendation is do not put in time and effort to make them fit, rather sell them and buy a set that do fit and will bolt straight on without modifying anything. This way, your car is roadworthy, safe and while you will lose money, you will not have to worry about camber, rolling guards, scrubbing tyres and when it comes to it, further hassles when you lower it. Stick close to OEM offset and do not go above 8" if you want to make it easy for yourself, there are plenty of options which fit the bill.

The below site looks very similar but this is what i use when working out offsets, where there is a will there is a way!

sooo you have the wheels? whole different story.

jack one side of the car up,
remove front and back wheel,
add new wheels front and back,
add length of timber under each wheel,
let jack down,
release hand brake/push down on car (without dinting panels), engage hand brake,
go for walk around car.

that will tell you if they will fit or not

Question is do you want poke or not? I assume that's the look you're after that's why you bought wide wheels.. Do what Dylan said.. Trial fit the wheels and it'll give you a good indication as to what you need.

Yeah was looking for a bit of a wider look. The wheels arrived this morning, so plan is to test fit them like suggested and see how everything goes. Thanks for the advice.

they dont look half bad. probably should have looked at the vmr range as they have similar "mesh" style rims that are not as aggressive fitment and just as cheap.
