  • Advice on the quality of these rims...

    Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a 2011 MK6 Golf GTI WITH 18" Detroit rims which I am not particularly a fan of.

I was browsing on Ebay and came across these wheels which I like the style of. However, I am sceptical on their quality considering the low price. Has anyone had experience with them before or can advise as to whether they would be a decent purchase?

Also, any idea what I could roughly sell my current 18" Detroits with no gutter rash/damage?

Cheers for your help in advance,

    Greg

If you do a search you will find various online posts claiming these come out of the same factory as the well respected VMRs. Can't vouch for that being the case but it is what I found when looking for rims 6 weeks ago.

Not a expert on MK6 wheel fitment and offset and im sure somone will chime in but they look like the stick out a little to far. I would say that by looking at the pictures they would rub on bumps. maybe a roll of the gaurds would be the fix but they just look odd. if there 225's on the rims as the add states i would think it needs at least a 235's as the look a little drift like (stretched across the rim) the side wall is not flat.

every second mk5/mk6 driver on this forum runs 8.5et45, and a 225/40 on a 8.5" wide wheel is not stretched.

the GTC and VMR are the same deal as far as im aware... I dont think you'll be getting BBS/OZ/Work quality, but they should be fine, not going to crumble under you when driving.
$999 just for a set of wheels isnt that cheap... more pricey then if you went to bob janes, beaurepaires etc. but they dont sell nicer spec'd or looking wheels usually
