Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • need help with wheel fitment

hey guys im looking to purchase wheels for my golf gti mk5, and i have been leaning towards a bbs lm (replica) the guy has 18x8 and 18x8.5 in two offsets +40 and +45 , with general knowledge which wheel would fit the golf without too many hassles and tyre sizes i was thinking of running 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 thanks.

    reps... noooo.
define 'fit', iv seen both 8.5et35 done a mk5 no worries so either of those will work. but poking and would have rubbed depending on height.
just got the 225/40, its better suited to the standard specs. 235/40 makes the rolling dia above stock

yeah i know it kills to get them, but reps are my only option atm.

i cant afford much at the moment and im not looking to spend to much on this car as my gf drives it mostly. im just looking to see what offset will fit best without many issues im not sure with these +40 and +45 if you had the choice which wheel would you recommend for the golf gti? 18x8.5 or 18x8 ?

can you please tell me if i go +40 or +45 which one will sit more close to the guard? and im not looking to lower it to low just yet, ill see how my gf goes with drivability as she does drive around alot having a mobile spray tanning business. also is there any type of lug nuts you can get for the golf like anodized coloured ones or just black ?

if its stock height id say no to 8.5et40, will look too mexican.
its all personal taste and opinion. as iv said before, all the above works. on persons idea of 'close to the guard' is anothers 'stock fitment'
if you dont want problems at all go 8et45, its closest to stock option of 18x8et52 with 225/40
every second mk5 on this forum is running 8.5et45, have a look at some of their pics. its been done and discussed to death

most people run them, but some complain it pokes and rubs. so personal opinion.
VW dont use nuts, they use bolts. and no not sure where to get anodized bolts..
