Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Is 9mm offset difference that bad?

The stock 17" wheels for the 2011-2012 Jetta are 7x17 5x112 with ET54 offset.

I'd like to get wheels which have got the same specs except the offset's ET45. As mentioned, everything else is the same. Even tyre profile will be identical (225/45R17).

Is 9mm offset difference that bad? Is that considered roadworthy in NSW? Some forums say ET54 to ET45 may be too big a jump, others say it's OK as it's going "outwards" and would be worse if going the other way around.

    What do you guys think?

its all up to you if itll work or not.
get a ruler, go out to the car and measure 9mm outwards from various points on the wheel/tyre. Will it hit anything when the suspension compresses over bumps? will the wheel or tyre stick outside the guards (something you dont want in AUS if your trying to stick by the book)?
you have already established the tyre and width are going to be the same, so if anything the inner clearance has increased/improved so no issues there.

sorry 19x8. the normally, 8" rims run 225, but can support 235. the 8.5 r better suited to 235 tyres.
