Spare tyre speed/load rating

Does anyone know what the legal requirements for speed/load ratings are for a spare tyre?

Given that spacesaver spares are pathetic in this area, would I be breaking the law by using an 81H tyre as a spare when the vehicle minimum is for an 82V ?

good point! i did similar as i planned to run bigger brakes that my spare 15" wouldnt go over.
i wonder if you put stickers on it like the space saver with speed and load restrictions if it would be ok...

The first thing to note is that not all jurisdictions actually require the carrying of a spare wheel and tyre.

Next, if a spare wheel is provided and it has a speed and/or load rating below that shown on the tyre placard required by the ADR, then there has to be a clear marking on the spare wheel indicating any variation from the information shown on the placard.

That said, in the majority of cases, the spacesaver spare is more than satisfactory. If you are travelling in remote areas, then yes, it is handy to have a normal full sized spare.

OK, I should have phrased it "would I be breaking the law by running an 81H tyre as a spare when the vehicle minimum is for an 82V"

My car came with a full sized spare but I'm thinking of using the tyre on it to replace one of the normal ones and use a cheaper/lighter tyre as the spare. I wonder if I print up a sticker with the load/speed limit on it saying that these must not be exceeded and attach it to the spare, will that satisy the "clear marking on the spare wheel indicating any variation from the information shown on the placard" requirement?
