Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Alloy wheel refurbishment/repairs in Geelong

Does anybody know/recommend an Alloy wheel repairer in Geelong area? My rims are screaming for some TLC.

Hi mate, I'm in Geelong as well.

I had been looking these up recently, and most appear to be in Sydney and Brisbane.

I also checked out youtube to see how it was done.

Essentially the marks are rubbed back to metal and the rims are colour matched and only the repairs are painted.

I decided to try this for myself, and even big deeps scuffs only barely actually ever get to metal. However colour matching and repair painting is all too fiddly for the novice - in the end I had them powder coated after scuffing out the damage and tidying up the edges.

They blasted them and then powdercoated and it only cost me $45 per wheel - I doubt I could paint them for that - and there is a big choice of colours.

    Get them powder coated!

I used NPC in Lambert Ave in Newtown, they also do electroplating etc. Turnaround was about 4 working days

alternatively you could ring around the wheel and tyer stores, they may be able to help. Dont be surprised if you have to take them to Melbourne if you want them refurbed.

I will try NPC and have a chat to them. I really owe my BBS rims some TLC.
