the tirerack search by size function isnt working well.

I was looking for 275/30/19 and it only returned 2 results, yet when I looked at individual brands there were many more available.

I'm thinking of getting the Goodyear Assym 2, but they only have very limited sizes at the moment

      Where are they made?
Could be something to do with japan?

Iv just done another buy from them.
4x215/40/18 continental dws, cost me 930$ landed plus a $20 bank fee.
Shipping was ~$350 of that from memory.

Ill soon be pricing up some oem continentals for dads passat cc to see how they compare to aus, the 235/40/18s do seem to be better priced in aus however due to being a common/popular size

sorry guys been offline for a while. it was for 225 x 40 x 18

The delivery was incredible. the only thing is they do not do paypal or visa etc. has to be money order to their bank account. this was not an issue using anz internet banking as i could do it all online, with tirerack providing all the details i needed.

Actually looking at my receipt the tyres were $156 each and shipping was only $286. this was when the AUS was at parity.

I dealt with Henry, which is just henry@tirerack.com

The only thing you have to be mindful is that the tyres can be quite old (3-4 years). This is generally not a problem if the tyres are stored correctly. Just insist that you want your tyres no more than a year old if you are particular. Check the date of manufacture on your sidewall.
I got a bit suspicious when you had to agree to the disclaimer they send before they send the tyres.

Having said that their service has always been impeccable.

Got my tyres yesterday. Agree the service from Tirerack was fantastic and delivery very prompt. I have to say that the overall cost for me was the same as buying locally, as I only bought two tyres. My only reason for using Tirerack was that I needed a replacement tyre that was not available in Australia.

The savings may be more beneficical when buying four tyres, however in my instance if I was to buy four tyres, it would have sent me over the $1,000 GST exemption limit. Also, having to pay by bank transfer resulted in fees of about 8% of the total transaction where as being able to pay by credit card would limit the cost to 3%.

Point being - do your sums before using Tirerack as once you factor in all the additional costs (including $20-$25 a tyre for installation), it may not be that worthwhile. Obviously others have saved heaps so it will depend on personal circumstances

was it for the polo gti? or another car.

Walbjj - Hard to explain, but my wife got a flat tyre (on a new set of tyres that came with the car), and for some reason the size on my wifes car was not available in Australia, so I had two choices:

                    1. Replace it with two brand new tyres - would have cost circa $800 for an equivalent tyre. I don't like having two different tyres on the same axle.
                    2. Purchase from overseas.

To only buy one tyre including freight would have cost over $500, so I also bought one CSC 2 to fit to my polo to make it cost effective, which I will use when my front tyres eventually wear out along with my brand new tyre on the spare wheel.

                    Make sense?

I recently bought 4 x 225/40-18 Continental CSC3 (2011 build date) locally for $1000 fitted - found them on eBay from a large tyre place

Just had 4 Continental DWS tyres delivered from Tirerack. less than $1,000 inlcuding shipping. Under 1/2 the price of equivalent tyres here.
Was worried about the age - due to the above poster - but they were made in Germany Oct/11. So only 3 months old.

We are so ripped off in this "lucky country".

just bought some goodyear eagle f1 supercar g:2 for my brothers mustang. goodyear australia dont stock the tyre, and they wanted about $750 for the asymmetric 1 which is the lower spec tyre.
i got the supercar g:2 for $500ea delivered. hopefully arrive next week
as far as the age of the tyres, i believe tirerack would only stock fairly recent manufactured inventory and they have closeouts on older stock frequently

I just bought 4 x Goodyear Assy 1s from tirerack

                                Big tyres - 275/30/19

The whole transaction was painfree and easy - the only quirk was that you have to pay via a bank transfer, so cost an extra $25 for bank fees..

Airfreight was around $300 for the big tyres, and delivery took about 1 week.

Make sure you add in extra cost for local fitting and disposal of the old carcasses (budget around $30/tyre)
