thats the specs of one of the OEM wheel options isnt it?
I know silver dub had 18x8et52, so a extra 7mm shouldnt hurt, but ill let a mk5/6 expert confirm that
Have you tried the specs in a offset calculator?
yes they will fit with 225 40 18 tyres. on stock 118TSI non sports pack suspension, you will have no dramas, no rubbing, no worries.
just make sure you have the correct hub centric rings and wheel bolts.
once lowered to 1 finger gap front and rear, you may need to look into removing the front fender screws and run camber of at least -1.5 or more at the rears.
but beware, the handling and ride would not be optimum with the stock 118TSI comfortline suspension and the wheels will poke out if you look at them from the top (technically illegal according to RTA, but somehow it's a bit rare that the cop will stop a Golf).
OEM wheel options for Mk5/6 Golf is 18x8 +50 being the most aggressive one, eg: Karthoum and Vision.

Thanks, I doubt i will ever lower the car, i just want to get wheels that fill the guards a bit more, stock wheels even in 18s would basically look the same, same huge gaps....On my old car, i fitted 18s with a lower offset and it filled the guards nicely without lowering.. That is what i'm after.
