  • Suitable replacement for failed Weitec GT shocks

I have a sneaking suspicion my Weitec GT dampers in the rear have failed. There's a nasty knock from the rear and no obvious cause from the install.

Next step is checking and/or replacing the sways and sway bushes, but it sounds like its in the rear wheel well, and thats a knocking shock i believe.

If so, and to be fore-armed, whats a suitable replacement for the Weitec GT rear shocks (except for a direct replacement)?

Direct replace it under warranty would be my first suggestion.

Anyone think the Bilstein Sports would be a good alternative?
Would they work well with the Weitec springs?

weitec apparently ride well and so do bilsteins, have to be "similar enough" that it wouldn't be a chronic mismatch? No experience with either shocks, just relaying what I've read man

with worn sway bushes i still found the weitec gt shocks/springs kept me majorly flat and tidy in corners but not the most comfy. classic tradeoff of course.

surely the weitecs and billies would be close-ish for the springs>?

After putting you onto this kit, I'd be happy to have a look. I am in Sydney for a week from the 22nd. Be better to check it out before changing anything.

If you are sure the noise is on one side. Swap the shocks over and see if the noise moves.

thats a good idea to swap them, might try that. i will have plenty of time too, considering she is dead with a likely clutch slave cylinder failure. as you'd know, thats a full gbox out jobbie. not fun. so doubtful i'd be able to drive to see you.

most Sydney-siders would consider where i live half-way around the world....

i am 1hour from airport with no traffic, 1hr45 with traffic. but at least its damn nice where i live though.
