After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 18" Alloy Repairs - Recommendations and Previous Experience

    Hi Guys,

Recently had a running with the curb and, unfortunately, have a damaged alloy to show for it.

Currently running 18" Detroits on my GTI, and the front right alloy has come out with about 55% of the edge gauged.

I'm currently looking in to a replacement alloy, which appears to be in the region of about $700-$800.

Before I fork out the dollars for a new wheel I thought I'd best explore the option of a repair, and see whether anyone on here has gone through the process with a Detroit.

Any information on previous experience would be much appreciated, as would any recommendations for a repair company here in Perth.

Please find below a couple of images of the damaged wheel. (Unfortunately not the best photos)

    Thanks again Guys!

yeah, it cant be done properly as the detroits have a machined face. the repair will come out fine, but the repaired area wont match the rest of the rim. ive heard that u can repair, respray and then machine the rim, but it ends up being as much as buying a new rim almost, so why bother.
best bet is to repair and paint the whole rim another colour, or make it jsut the normal silver colour and have the black inserts. ****ty solution, but meh.
a lot of people like the rim, and i see a lot of golfs with it, and funnily enough, most r curbed as well.

Just a bit of follow up for anyone who has damaged their Detroits.
Recently spoke to the boys at Alliance Alloy Repairs here in Perth, and was advised that they will soon be stocking the correct equipment to fix machined alloys such as the Detroits.
They expect to have the new gear 100% up and running towards the end of November.

Be careful with getting things done by Alliance. I put my T5 in to get the steelies fixed and when I picked it up I realised nothing had been done. Initially they'd insisted the job had been done then agreed the job hadn't been done but it was my fault for dropping the van off and not telling them. The receptionist got quite angry when I said I'd given her the key. After a bit of a 'firm' conversation they realised that they'd just forgot (despite ticking it off in the book as having been done). A few hours turned into a full day. No discount was given for the stuffing around and the invoice was higher than the quote. I was told that thats how business works and if I want my van I'll pay
