  • looking at putting new wheels on the passat

hi guys, my new (to me) passat has some small scratches on the wheels and being the perfectionist that i am, i'm looking at replacing them.

my current ones are "montreals", 16x7, 5x112, 57.1mm bore, et45 and weigh 18lbs.

the ones i'm looking at are "biolines", 16x6.5, 5x112, 57.1mm bore, et50 and weigh 22lbs.

obviously there are some small differences in width, offset and weight as they are jetta wheels however i'm unsure of how this will affect the look and ride of the vehicle. any advice would be greatly appreciated guys! cheers, ben

You should be looking for 17 x 7.5 ET35 for mad hellaflush fitment!
Curious as to why you would pick a thinner wheel with a higher offset that weighs more?
I would be going lower offset, wider wheel and less weight if it was me.

i'm basically just looking around to see what's available.. the others i had my eye on are 17/8s with 245/45/r17s and a 26 offset. these are off an audi a5. would these be any good? any suggestions?

First suggestion will look worse, as wheels will sit further in the your old wheels, and from the rear itll look silly going skinnier wheels. you most likely wont notice, but the handling may become slightly worse due to be the wheel track being smaller.

Your second suggestion on the other hand sounds better. It may come out to far though due to the offset vs width as the 245 will have a bit of fat
what size tyres do you currently have? and is the car lowered/planned to be lowered?
something like what team_v suggested would be best...

Try these. in your case id be watching the over all tyre diameter and how much the wheel in and out away from the strut and arch.

guessing you mean 205/55/16? as your wheel size above.

if it is 205/55/16, you could get a 17x7.5 et35 (as team v) with 225/45/17 or 235/45/17, will suit your car much better

so you are running tyres for a 17" wheel on a 16" wheel?

                Edit:
Damn, Dylan beat me to the point.

i'm guessing you're talking about the CC wheels for $2000 buy it now on ebay dylan? budget is really based on what i like and what will suit the car. is $2000 a good price for these? i'm not really looking to lower the car as i'd rather keep it "as is" if possible. will the 18s make it look like a SUV without lowering it? i did one of those offset calculators and these are the results...

there was a few sets. im not really sure what there value is, id say 2k is to much unless the tyre are worth a bit and new.
what was the second sized tyre you put in the calculator? those generation passats must have the same rolling diameter as the boras and golfs if you have a 205/55/16. The newer passats run slightly bigger i believe...

link's not working for some reason, the size of tyres on the CC wheels are 235/40/r18. will they fit ok and will the car need lowering so it doesnt look stupid?

they will fit ok, they are a little bigger diameter then your current size so they will fill the arches, but also lift the car over all.
personally cars with small or big wheels at stock height look odd to me now... (is that wrong??)
I went from 15s to 18s on my car without lowering, i think it looked better then stock, but that might have just been me...
Maybe try doing a googleimage search on your passat and see what you can find with different sized wheels and no lowering, its really up to you...
