  • Mk3 Steelies to Mk3 Alloy Wheels - Do I need new wheel bolts?

    Hi All

I am about to change from Mk3 standard steelies to Mk3 5 spoke alloys 96/97 year

Do I need 16 new wheel bolts or should the stock steelies rim bolts fit the alloys?

    Thanks

Double-check if the alloys have a ball or conical seat for the lugs. It's a small difference but if you run your fingers down you should be able to feel it.

If it's a ball-seat, you can use your stock steel wheel lugs. Usually, stock alloys accept your current standard ball-seat lugs but I've noticed the alloy wheels used for VWs when Mk3s were sold were conical seat (my stock GL alloys were conical seats, and my sister's '98 Polo were too). So yeah, best to double-check.
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.
