Lorinser 17x8 wheels on new Golf VI,

Hi Guys,

I have owned mercedes benz cars the last 15 years but am now interested in getting a golf,

simple question is: do wheels designed for mercedes fit on current model Golfs?

and would 17x8 Lorinser RS80(RS1) wheels look nice

I am looking at this page as my inspiration, scroll down to see the Golf with 19x8 Lorinser RS1 rims,

mine are similar design (older RS80 style) but in smaller 17x8 size,

can anyone forsee Problems in doing this?

5x112 will bolt straight up.
CB should be fine (may need hubcentric rings, cheap from any wheel and tyre shop)
Width, 8" is not that wide.
Offset, I'd imagine the 8s have an ET of around 35 ?? This could be "too aggressive" and make the wheel poke, or you could make something pretty unique. Only problem is you will need to be very low on coils or use airride to achieve the right look.

Try a wheel offset calculator and use a ruler to check.

What colour car?


I'm thinking if you are looking at cars like that for inspiration you know what is required, and therefore should just do it and love doing something different

yea from memory it was ET35

they looked hot on my 190E but i took them off to get cleaned up a few years ago and never got them back on the car,

if I ran a higher profile tyre would this look wrong? i dont really want to lower the golf too much anyway,

can you recommend someone in Sydney who can help me out setting it up?

I had a 190E before too, loved it!

Hmm I'd probably run a 225/40.
Will look good, same rubber as a GTI but the wheel is a half inch wider. The only issue then becomes where the shoulder of the tyre will sit and how close that will come to the guards. If it's close, perhaps a 215/45 might be better?

Worst you can do if you have the car already is do a stest fit and see if you like the look and fitment.

Ahhm, to run a classy wheel liek a lorinser, especially smaller diameter with a bit of width + aggressive offset, it really should be pretty low to look right. Instead it will look like a 4wd from the rear 3/4 view....

Hmmm, I still have the old 215/45 F1 eagles I ran on the 190E (probably hard as rocks by now), I can throw them back on the rims and see what they are like on the car, (when I eventually buy one )

I went through the same thing with the 190E and lowered it a 1.5 inches to make it look right (H&R springs),

what brand springs are the go with the golfs?

On a mk5/6 et45 is about flush so et35 is a bit of poke. If your planning on lowering which looks like you are, you'll need to run stretched tyres otherwise you'll rub like crazy. Dont forget tho at higher diameters i.e. 19" the lower profile tyres which you need for stretch wont have the correct load ratings.

the rims I have are 17's so I was hoping to just bolt them on with a half decent profile and wont need to stretch the tyres,

I used to run 205/40 on the front of my 190E and the ride was too harsh

also they are very low profile so there would be a large guard gap?

what does the standard GTI run?

Had a look and even 205/40/17 tyres dont meet the standard load ratings. They are only rated at 84 whereas you need at least 91. Its up to u whether u run them or not but in my mind the $40k insurance risk isnt worth it.

Standard tyres are 225/45/17 or 225/40/18.
