  • Sourcing Detroit 18" Wheels?

How hard are these to come by? I don't mind sourcing them from a dealer if they are priced reasonably.

I see a number of 2009 Mk VI GTIs that I would consider buying but they come with the weedy Denver wheels.

    Weedy?

What size rims do touring cars or V8 supercars sit on?

I think (could be wrong) its 17"
Remember reading somewhere that anything over 17" begins to deteriorate performance in terms of weight and ride. It's all about look when you go 18"+

Having said that the 18" detroits look pretty darn good.

Sorry, I mean on the MK VIs. They seem to suit the Mk V GTI nicely.

Ive seen 2 pop up on ebay prob over the last 2-3 months so they are out there. Sourcing from the dealer would be very expensive but theres no harm in asking a price.

if you're willing to get the MK5 version then bring it over to a local wheel repairers and have the inside spoke coated black then you'll have a lot of options to import some from USA... the MK5 version are very similar they've just been painted differently in the inside when Volkswagen reuse the same style for MK6

I got mine from Tempe also. Although they are replica's, they are good quality, fit well and dirt cheap. I think I also paid $1500, thats including new tyres + delivery to your door. The only difference I think with the OEM would be lighter. I've noticed these are quite heavy and its actually affected fuel consumption.

No I got Falken 912's. Fantastic tyres, very quiet, not bad grip and very high wear rate. I also had the option of Falken 412's which were very grippy but didn't have as high a tread rate. Another option for the same price was Kumho KU31's which have recieved very good reviews. These may not be the same as your bridgstone or Michelines but definatelly not the Nankang crap you mentioned. If I were club racing maybe I'd go and spend $350 a tyres but for day to day normal driving the Falkens are fine.
