Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wheel Redrilling

Need to get some wheels re drilled from 5x114.3 to 5x100. Does anybody know somewhere I could get them done. I'm located in Wagga Wagga so if need be I will travel to Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra. (Preferably Canberra as it is the closest.)

Raymond has already been very helpful and suggested OZwheels in Minchinbury and Neales Wheels in South Strathfield.

Also have been told that 5x100 and a 66mm centre bore might not be a good idea?

Thats going to be getting very close with a large centre bore like that and a redrill. Are these wheels flat backed, or are you going to have to get them plugged and drilled?
Maybe some pics of the wheels and we might be able to give you some more ideas.
Have you considered 5x100 - 5x114.3 adapters? Think you can get them in as small as a 15mm IIRC.

66mm centre hole is not a problem as long as you have flat backs and no holes around the area,if you need to fill the re-drill go for adapters also if you are to run spacers later on go for adapters.Tempe tyres will do the re-drill very cheap for your and they have the best equipment available to do it.

I'd prefer to redrill than to go adaptors if possible (don't like the sound of them"
Heres some pictures of the PCD. The wheels are 17x8 ET35 and 17x9 ET38.

Looks good to redrill Simon, but you may have issues getting the centre-cap on if it's a screw on one?

That’s a simple redrill the centre bore will be no issue at all. 73mm is the largest CB that can be redrilled to 5x100.

I wouldn’t bother filling and drilling just make them multi fitment.

Look forward to seeing them on your Bora, they are a great looking rim.

Be sure to post your experience with redrilling these and specially who the engineering workshop was.

Well, bit of an update on this. Took the wheels to a custom shop here in Wagga. They were initially pretty confident to redrill they so I let them take the wheels apart for me.
Unfortunately after having a proper look at them they didn't want to touch them. They didn't like the idea of having to cut into the thread that holds the centre cap on.

I'm gunna send it to an actual wheel place to see what they say. Otherwise, I'll have to sell them
