Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 6R Wheel Offset?

I have read a few posts on this forum and others regarding the wheel offset and the ways to calculate. But I still do not learn...

Hope anyone would able to tell me the exact offset I should go for? I am overwhelmed by the teachings, really.

I have heard that the new Polo will take early A3, TT wheels, but what spec are those?

    Offset is based on width.
What are your current wheels? and what wheels would you like to end up with?

    Vento VR6
    MKIV GSW TDI

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I have got the new Polo 6R, with 14x5" and 175/70 R14 tyres

And I would like to purchase a set of Lenso 17X7", with lower profile tyres such as 45.

      Is this enough information?

If you are in Sydney, go to Tempe tyres and try a set..

Offset is relevant to the distance from the hub but is affected by the rim width. Maybe have a look on Polo UK site, they have had the Polo for longer than we have.

          hey noone

Thanks, Thats what I am planning to do.
Because I have gone for the 3 door Trendline
It comes with the steel wheels, so I have not one bit of hesitation to swap them.
Except I have not received my car yet. Should be at the Paticks...

I read that Tempe is having a sale on their packages today, How much discount for a set of 17inch?

wow thats a tiny wheel! i can see why you want to change
I just used this Link to try and work out your over all tyre on a 17x7, you'll more likely be looking at a 40 profile on the polos (smaller car)
I ended up with a 215/40/17 if you get the 17x7s. speedo will be almost exact which is good.
Have a play with it. Go down to a few tyres and wheel places, im sure they'll be able to show you what they have and what sizes they suggest.
Good luck! and post some pics up when your done

              Yep will do!
I went for the trendline because it is the only Polo with 3 doors
I do not need the extra doors. And it seem to have everything I needed.
Thanks for the tip on speedo. I guess Tempe is quite experienced about that...

Don't expect Tempe to give you advice, they move a lot of stock at a fair price.

Do your homework and go to them with specific info or requirements.

If you are worried, you can try one of my wheels or my stock spare wheel to see how they compare.

Hi BR @ ON, if you don't get a set of reps at Tempe today, check with me if you are interested in some BBS 17s.
Not sure if the offset will suit but they are 5x112 so would suit the 'new' Polo.

Full set with tyres that have around 5k wear, for ~$900 if you are at all interested. Located not far from you.
                  Cheers,
                  B.

Sorry, my error. I thought that it had gone to 5x112 PCD but I can't find anything to support it and a little info to support it still being 5x100. That was what I read at the time of a speculated Polo R; obviously reality has caught up with both Polo R and speculation about 5x112 hubs!

BR @ ON, Tempe may have some great tyre prices but read up to ensure you are getting a fresh set of tyres rather than ones stored for some years. They sometimes sell wheels traded from other cars - possibly better quality than the cheap replica wheels that they sell. Their packages are popular and probably fine for normal use.

                      Good luck!

                        5 x 100, same as Mk4 Golf, Mk1 Audi TT, Mk 1 A3 / S3 and Previous Polo (9n / 9n3)

Audi TT's are good OEM, but there are lots of aftermarket options, just don't tend to have a low enough offset to sit as wide as they can.

Be aware older Celica's and Impreza's were 5 x 100, but tend to have a much higher offset, so may clash with brakes (higher offset sits further from guard / wheel arch).
