Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just wondering if anyone on here has RS's on a mk4 gti? Really like the look of of the RS's, I want to get some And put some biggers lips on and possibly get them chromed. Can possibly get some 17's for a good price. Just thinking 17's on a mk4. Too small? sizes are 17x8 and 17x9 and offset +35 will they fit?

Plain and fair they are hot lookin wheels.

Wanna achieve something like this, Would these be 17's? or bigger.

17" RS's look dope on a mk4. But you have to have the stance to pull it off though

If you get widths/pffsets correct, why would you need spacers??

Do it properly and it will be dope as!

Well I will need adapters as they are 5x114.3. I'm pretty keen. with the adapters they will be +20. anyone know what that will look like?

Try vortex/wheel whores. Will be plenty of information there.

Use a wheel offset calculator ( 1010 tyres) and a ruler and measure what your final ET's will be etc compared to where your wheel sits now.

+20 will be pretty wide in the mk4 stock guards +30 would be a safer option. I have some 17inch BBS rs that are 5x100 redrill and they fit up nice on a standard mk4 with room for some deeper lips if poke it the stance your after. Drop me a PM for me info on them or getting yours redrilled.

+20 on the 9s will poke, need stretch and very tight suspension to pull it off though. and cant leave the car raised on RS as it looks gay

yeah its true. I have got lowered springs but still not that low. Planning on coilovers to drop it on its guts. But might happen after i get rs's? so i might have to only drive the 3 minutes to work and back while im riding high hahah.

Quick thread hijack - am I likely to find a set of 18" RS that are 5x100? Or am I more likely to find 17"s like that? I too am thinking about RS for my Mk4 gti...

Chances of finding any in 17 or 18s in Australia in 5x100 are very very slim Im afraid.
Overseas maybe, but your going to pay through the nose for them....
Best bet is a set in 5x114.3 (more common) and run adapters, or look at plugging and/or re-drilling

I want to see these done. Alex's A3 on Super RS is the closest I've seen and it's a combo that makes me wonder why no one else has went for it too! Yes it can get costly and very hard to get the sizing worked out, but SO worth it!
