  • Would these tyres fit on a POLO??

Does anyone know if these tyres will fit the polo Gti?
    16"x8'
    Fronts +35 offset- 205/55/16 Goodyear Super Ducaro F1 70%
    Rears +38 offset- 225/55/16 Bridgestone G Grid 55%

***If NOT could you please tell me the specs of the tyres our cars can fit, in terms of the profile and
offsets. someone enlighten with my lack of information on these cars =D thx!

Google wheel offset calculator (the +35/38 goes with the wheel width btw) and the tyre size calculator and use that to help you see the suitability.

    Both are on 1010tyres.com

Since I'm after a similar answer:

      Stock Specs
      Width: 6.5 inches/ 45mm offset

      New Wheel Specs
      Width: 8 inches/ 35mm offset

Inner Clearance: 9mm LESS (the inside of the wheel to the struth housing)
Outer position: EXTEND an extra 29mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)
      Wheel Offset Calculator

      Just a little off topic:
Does anyone know how I would be able to tell if the tyres would rub against the guard? As mentioned previously, I'm looking at Bilstein B8's with 35mm H&R springs, but with a 215/45/17 setup. I have 17x8" rims. It may be that I need to opt for a different spring height, perhaps a 20mm/15mm drop to clear the drop, since 215/45 is just over 2cm taller than 215/40.

Height wise, I know I'll be fine because I can opt for a different spring rate drop (i.e 15, 20, 35mm). But - would a 215/45 setup be a problem when turning? (i.e rubbing inner guard)

      Can anyone shed some light!!?

If you use your wheels as a guide, getting the tyres to sit square shouldered on the rim, your rim clears (as long as there isn't a massive angleo n your struts) your tyres should hopefully be fun.

Go "undersize" tyres (stretch) and you are guranteed to be fine. Balloon tyres (like a 45 or 50 or 55 profile) and you are just as guranteed to have problems.

225 will give you issues no doubt

the 205 will be fine at that offset

i run 205/40/17 all round, +35 up front ,+19 in back

most have found 215 the widest you can go before having issues

Compared to 205/45/16 (on the same rim width)
            - 205/55/16 - will have 41mm more in overall diameter -> the car will be raised with ~20mm
            - 225/55/16 - will have 63mm more in overall diameter -> the car will be raised with ~30mm

stretching them on rims with 8 inches width - will give less diference in diameter... but there will still be some difference

55 profile seems too large, think you will change the rolling diamter which influences the gearing and speedo.

does anyone knows if a 225/45/17 tyre will fit underneath a lowered polo?
if not, can i resolve this issue when i Put 215/40/17 on the rims so the tyres are a bit stretched?

225/45/17 (compared to 205/45/16) - has 43mm more in diameter - so the car will be raised with ~21.5mm... and the distance between the upper part of the tire and the wheel arch will be reduced by ~21.5mm...

215/40/17 would be more suitable, as the difference in diameter is only 13mm.

                    USE THE CALCULATORS people.

                    215 / 40 / 17 (width of tyres, same regardless of size / 40% of 215mm profile = height / 17 inch)

                    Polos will only take:
                    1) 205/45/16 or 215/45/16
                    2) 205/40/17 or 215/40/17

If you go 225, you are likely to run into problems with rubbing at full lock.
The width of the alloy wheels - should be only between 6.5" to 7.5" at max. 8" means the tyres will be stretched. I wouldn't recommend it. 205/45/17 on 7.5 inch is already small stretch which I do not like. - easier to curb wheels etc.

I am talking about recommended and safe sizes only. You can put whatever you like. :p

i was planning on getting a 205/40 tyre on the 8j wheels.
225/45 will be to big, i've noticed.
do you think it will still rub or give problems when i put the 205 stretched on it?

Are 8 inch wide wheels legal on the Polo?

should be fine, its all about the offset. an offset lower larger than 40 may cause issues with the inner clearance an offset lower than 35 is going to give poke, meaning if your suspension is not rigid, you could rub.

If you roll your guards, you can go wide!
