  • So... Adaptors... where should I be looking?

I'll be looking for 4x100 to 4.114.3 adaptors soon. Probably 15mm or a tad bigger.
The wheels are 6.5s and I'm unsure of the offset (I'd guess about +30 though)
I need to know where to look.

    Adaptec?
ECS tuning? (site won't load for me)

    ...Ebay?

What other sites are there selling lots of different adaptors?
    Have YOU purchased from them?
Rough pricing? Shipping times and cost?

Any issues with lug bolts -> wheel nuts? Center-bore optional as well?

    Thanks guys.

    - Jace.

I've bought from Adaptec before. Mike is great to deal with and will ensure all your specs are catered for. He has experience with most wheel fitments and could possibly offer you extra assistance you might not be aware of. I bought 5x100 --> 5x112 adapters from him and they were cut from T6061 billet aluminium (light-weight). He supplied the bolts required to secure the adapter to the hub. At first I wanted pressed studs so I could use wheel nuts to secure the wheels but he suggested to have the adapters tapped instead because there's a chance I might use Mercedes wheels (he said they usually have thicker wheel hubs and so the studs may not reach out all the way). I didn't end up using Merc wheels but the adapters worked well - threads were cleanly tapped, screwed on perfectly without much play with my stock VR6 wheel bolts. 15mm is the thinnest adapter he can make and they're fastened with flat-seat bolts. I also got 25mm adapters from him and they were fastened using conical-seat bolts. Again, cleanly cut. Bolted up to the hub fine. I torqued them down to wheel-spec (I use 90 ft lb) along with some blue Locktite and it got me down to Melbourne and back. I would definitely buy from him again. When dealing with Mike, I got the feeling that if I was a complete noob at wheels and such, I would still be able to buy what I want from him as he's easy to talk to and would guide you every step of the way. I got frequent updates and the shipping was quick. Ended up costing me ~$450AUD when the dollar was awesome.

    25mm:

Bolt for 25mm adapter on the left, bolt for 15mm adapter on the right:

I've also bought from ADAPTITUSA, 5x100 --> 5x114.3 in 25mm and 33mm sizes, also made from T6061 billet aluminium. Service was less personal but was still very straight forward and easy if you know the specs that you want. Thinnest they'll do though is 20mm. The adapters came with pressed studs - to secure the adapter to the hub, they provided threaded studs and nuts (like as if to convert our hubs to use wheel nuts). They didn't provide the nuts to secure the wheel to the adapter though, and didn't provide me with info on what size wheel nuts to use. They only offer shipping within the US (free), so I had them ship the adapters to a mate of mine and had him send the adapters over to me. Only ended up costing me ~$400AUD when the dollar was good.

    I'd highly recommended Adaptec.

Malcolm (schoona) recently bought 15mm adapters from H&R so he should be chiming in soon!

Sh*****t Ray, thanks for that info!

Adapt-it have these at like $50 each.
I don't think I wanna spend $400-$500 on adaptors alone, +tires and the cost to rebuild the wheels.

But on your recommendation I will contact Adaptec for a price as well.
I'm assuming less studs + less width = less price?

Not necessarily. It's a set price that Adaptec does. It actually costs more for the 15mm as well. I guess he charges more as they're sought after, and not many places offer 15mm.

$400 is about the lower-end of the price bracket for adapters from what I've seen. Any less is probably cos they're being charged mate's rates!

          Redrill wheels?

That might be an option, but they're three-piece SSR's so I could sell them onto JDM guys once I'm sick of them.
But it might be easier, depends on the offset I guess.

i had a set of h&r ones for the old porker wheels and the fit and finish was outstanding, but the where 25mm from memory so hubbolts were fine to use.

and redrilling and welding wheels is fairly easy to sort to then it would be a matter of just sorting apcers to you desired offsets

I'm thinking whether or not I actually like the wheels enough to spend money fitting them.
They're ugly, but they're sorta retro...

I'd probably be getting them for $20 haha.

EDIT: They should be 15x6.5 +20

Hey Ray, no joking about Adaptec!
                  Here's the reply I got:

                  Hey there Jace,

We can definitely help ya out with the adapters you need and it sounds like you've got a cool set of wheels for your MkI. The wheel and hubcentric 15-35mm 4x100->4x114.3 Adaptec adapters will be $160 per pair including all special hardware needed for installation. Shipping will be $20 for both pairs to your door anywhere in the US.

You can either call the order in or send the total of $160 per pair plus the $65 shipping to Australia ($385) to our PayPal address at sales@1552v2.com. Just make sure you include your full contact info as well as the detailed specs of the adapters (stud size, width, PCD conversion and the wheel centerbore) you are ordering.

Once payment is made you are looking at roughly 7-10 business days for build time before shipping.

Just let me know if you have any other questions or would like to place an order and we'll get you set up ASAP.

Thanks again Jace and have a great rest of your day,

NICE. a pain in the back side really, makes looking at wheels in the wrong stud pattern even more tempting now!

i also went with adaptec, very good service and price i found (even better when the US vs AUS dollar was better)
even after i buggered up my centre bore measurements (two wheels were different too the other two (and i only measured one thinking they'd be the same)) they offered to help, even though they already had my money.
                      Highly recommend.

Cant wait to see those wheels on the car by the way!

Haha I like them. They actually have a nice amount of dish... and they're SSR's, not Rotas, which is a plus.

They're sort of ugly. I can't find a good picture of them.
Going to check them out next weekend. They're sitting in a paddock on a DR30 Skyline.
If gutter rash is minimal I'll grab them, but if it's rash-city they're not worth it.
