  • Advice on wheel scrapped on gutter

I have a Golf Mk VI and I while parking it tonight I scrapped one of the 17" Seattle alloy wheels against the gutter. I'm pretty devastated and would like some advice as to where to go to have it repaired and the ball park costs involved. I'm located in Melbourne.

Once repaired is the repaired coating as strong as the original?

Also, does anyone know the cost of a replacement 17" Seattle wheel just for the sake of comparison?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Kham

Not sure who fixes wheels in Melb - but i've had one of my black G-Max ones fixed before and it cost $120 and that was including machining and powdercoating the wheel again...And i think it's as good as new. So by rights your wheel should be a bit cheaper.
Maybe scan the yellow pages or I'm sure someone on here can recommend someone in the Melbourne area to take your wheel to.
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

machined wheels can be a big problem, if the scrape is not too bad, you could get away with stripping back the clearcoat and getting the wheel machined smooth again which involves taking some more metal off, then to keep it machined and shiny, you have to get it clear coated, or strip all the wheels back, repair the damaged one with filler and paint them a color of your choice.....

            Thanks for the replies guys.

I've decided to go with www.advancedalloys.com.au in Moorabbin as I've heard a lot of good things about their work. They said they will machine the damaged areas, polish and re-clear coat the whole wheel. They say I shouldn't be able to notice the difference but I'm a little worried that the finish may look slightly different from the rest of the wheels. I guess I'll just need to wait and see.

I also called up Barloworld VW just to get a price on a replacement wheel for the sake of comparison. They quoted $640 for the wheel plus fitting! Nasty.

              Hi Khamtran,

I just ordered a new Golf VI 118TSI Sports Pack, and we were considering changing Seattle's to another style.

Instead of trading them into the dealer if you wanted them maybe we can work something out.

                Hi kcspin,

Thanks for your offer but I don't think it would be worth your while as I would only be after one rim.

I would think you would most likely get less for the rims if you didn't have the full set.

But if you did want to sell one I'd be interested though depending on price.

                  Hi Kham,

I'll see if anyone wants to buy the full set, and if not, I might be able to sell you the single rim. I'll let you know in a week's time if you're still interested.

Yep advanced alloys are good. Not from personal experience but I have heard good things.

I have used Ace Alloys in Braeside. They fixed two of my scratched wheels on my old bmw. From memory it was about $150 each, came out looking smick. 03 9587 5200 incase you wanted to enquire. Took only a day or so as well, and if you're local they'll drop it off for free!
