Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wide steelies

So i have a celica, which has a 5x100 PCD (Same as VR6's and some other golfs afaik)

So does anyone know of some 7+ in wide steelies available that suite that PCD

If not i think i will just do a hub conversion so i can run 5x114.3 wheels... plenty in that PCD.

you can get mk4 Golf Steelies (15") or New Beetle steelies (16") and widen them to whatever you like

    stock they are 6" wide

widening steelies is BEST left to the pro's

there are 2 ways of widening steels

1 is pressing out the center and transferring it to a new wider barrel with changed width and offset
2 cutting the rim in half putting a band between the 2 halves and re-welding, or cutting 2x wide barrels and welding them together

anything else is BS and isnt the right way to do it

Local tyre shop might be able to point you to somebody in your area.

neale wheels are quality wheels specialists but in my past experience they don't have the most receptive customer service. They'll most definitely get everything perfect, they're just a bit old n' grumpy.

Rayray got his mk4 steelies widened at oz wheels in st mary's. I've spoken to that guy a fair few times and he welds new ROH barrels to the cut out centre. google both of them.

I've got the same to say about Neales wheels, but everyone else I've talked to like them.
                  Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
                  Present: Mk3 Golf variant.
