Car handles like its on tram tracks

I have a 96 Golf Cab, I have replaced the lower wishbones and both Cv's.

I have then had a wheel alignment and balance, but this B*&^ch still twitches left and right, no rime or reason, one minute it twitches left and at 100k you can sometimes leave pressents in your jocks.

One minute the steering wheel is off centre to the left then right?

Can somebody give me some dirrection, power steering fluid is good, is it the steering rack or pump?

took it to Mech who said it is incompetent wheel aligners - I am thinking pump issues.

Any help would be great.

could be something got to do with the TOE on the alignment, from experience, ive had the steering wheel shoot out my hands because of a bad TOE adjustment

one of the VW tech boys will chime in though so hang tight

Have you checked the steering rack mounts? Your rack might be sliding back and forth.

Check the bottom wishbone bushes in the A arms and the strut top mounts.

Could also be play in the inner ends of the tie rods.

Another funny one is when I accelerate it pulls to the right, when I back off it pulls to the left. Give it a squirt and bang back over to the right.
Hey I could almost steer with throttle control who needs hands.

But when under constant rpm it can dodge to any bump in the road.

I have replaced all lower arms and bushes.

I'll check the top mounts & rack mounts tonight.

Sounds like bad toe. Ask for a print-out of the alignment next time you have it done.

Loose/worn tie rod end on your steering rack can do it.

I have the print out and it is all within VW specs, checked the rack mounts and top bushs all OK. Checked the fluid level and did the bleed check from the manual about looking for bubbles and level drop when turning the wheel.

The other issue is there seems to be a sweet spot where at a certain rpm range the sucker feels like it is cavitating so the car is going left - right so you look like a drunk driving down the road.

The steering was a little hard to turn right when we got the car, so maybe the rack was bent, and now it is catching? who klnows.

how about checking the cross member see if that could be loose, if that were me, id spend a good day going over every bolt on the front end, that way you at least know nothing will come loose

I have everything seems O nothing loose or wiggling.

Reading up, I am leaning towards the rack - due to the fact it was hard to turn right and now it moves with engine rpm change, either that or pump I will let you all know the outcome.
