  • 3 piece wheel screws!!

Looking for some help from guys who have rebuilt 3 piece wheels...

i am in the process of sorting out a rebuild on a set of rims for my MKV and the existing bolts are in pretty good nick but looking at going gold bolts instead...

anyone have any contacts to purchase whell screws in Australia? there is a couple of shops in the states and UK but like supporting locals in the first instance...

i am chasing same bolts as BBS Rs screws... specs M7x32mm 12.9 head...

does anyone know if the nuts on the inner side of the wheel can be reused and ideas where to buy the sockets to disasmble with rims?

anyone with any help would be appreciated..

    thanks

PM intensem1 (Alex) I am sure he will be able to point you in the right direction (bolts and tools), he has rebuilt quite a few sets of BBS.

    What wheels are your rebuilding?

old skool work rezax's... yeah they are 5x114.3... should be good for resale but not wide enough.. only 18x7.5 right now but would like to get wider barrels eventually but will refinish faces etc first and widen later i think...

          thanks mate

They should look pretty nice fitted up, what offsets? You running adapters or wobble bolts to fit those?

I've thought of going to a local fastener shop and see if I could get some custom-made. I'm guessing most wheel shops would do the same too. I'm in the same predicament with some multi-piece wheel bolts too - would like to get new ones in a different colour.

As for the tools, any dedicated tool specialist should carry what you're looking for. What I did was bring a wheel in and ask for the correct socket/bits that match up with them. If the wheel bolt/nut are 12-point, get 12-point sockets. Don't leg it with hex sockets. Most shops should have whatever you need in stock, it's only the weird 10-point bolts that O.Z. Racing wheels use in some of their wheels that's ridiculously hard to find. If the bolts on the Work Rezaks are the exact same as BBS RS, then you'll be needing a 12-point 8mm socket for the bolts, and a 12-point 10mm socket for the nuts.

You can re-use both the bolt and nuts provided the thread is not stripped. Some don't recommend re-using them but many others have with success - just use some blue Locktite and torque them down to ~24 ft lbs. Make sure you bolt them on in a criss-cross pattern.
              Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
              Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

just get them gold plated, would be cheaper than new bolts

I feel the pain. I went to buy new bolts for mine, but it was such a hassle that I ended up just polishing mine. 30 bolts per wheel

offset is +45ET so not to agressive and will be running wobble bolts... was thinking about redrilling but might be easier to sell later if i leave the 5x114.3... wanted slighty more agreesive fitment but that can be done with widening them...

that isnt such a bad idea actually... ill need to relook at the heads again and see if they are in good enough condition to it... right now the cheapest quote for 160 gold bolts is about $450 plus shipping... surely should be able to get them plated again cheaper...

i just need to find some local electroplaters i guess..

thanks mate... i have rang quite few places around south east QLD and its not worth getting the bolts replated.. 3 quotes and they were all around $1.50-$3.00 per bolts for gold heads... i can get new bolts with holding nut for US$1.50 each so this might be better than refinishing and keeping the others as backups...

hopefully my wheels go in the week and should be done within 5 days... then will just need to sort out the bolts but waiting on email back they might not ship from the US to Australia...
